The 05 Reg. is a Series type Regulator. Do not use a Shunt type regulator.
Drag has a Compu-fire Series type Regulator Part # DS-313058

Found the following information in the 2005 service manual.

The 2005 charging system has a higher output than 2004. The system is rated at 40 amps, hence the circuit breaker changed to a rating of 40 amps.

For 2005, the VR will regulate the voltage at 14.2 volts. Most VR will regulate at 14.5 and some higher. It is important to NOT overcharge the battery especially for AGM battery (see Battery Section). The voltage regulation set point may vary a little but it should never be above 14.5 volts DC.

The VR for 2005 is a series type regulator as it has been for a few model years. A shunt regulator is also used in the motorcycle industry but Big Dog does not us it. If replacing a VR do not replace it with a shunt regulator. The VR on all 2005 models are grounded to the frame at the point of the voltage regulator mounting. The case of the VR is ground so there are no ground wires that are part of the VR. The case of the VR is grounded directly to the frame, where it is bolted to the frame, it is important that this ground remains clean and tight.

Larry does that mean I need a 40 amp reg or 32 kind of confused???????
You are fine with the Compu Fire. It's rated at that but it provides for than that.

Big Dog since 05 were listed as having 40 amp alternators but they were never that much.
Notice the new models now only say 35!!

Sounds like a Night Train subject next! :D
