WHAT THE F&#K ?

CHOPPERSFORLIFE
HI EVERYONE.

I HAVE A PROBLEM AND NEED SOME TECHNICAL ADVICE.

STARTED THE RIDGEBACK THIS MORNING, RAN A LITTLE ROUGH FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN RAN FINE. LET IT WARM UP FOR ABOUT 15 MIN. RAN BEAUTIFUL.

I NEEDED TO REMOVE THE ROTOR LOCK, KEYS ARE ATTACHED TO THE IGNITION KEY. SHUT HER OFF. REMOVED THE ROTOR LOCK AND RETURNED THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH. ATTEMPTED TO START THE BIKE AGAIN, CRANKED FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS AND THEN NO STARTER.:bang:

BATTERY IS NEW (KEEP IT ON A TRICKLE CHARGER), SPEEDO LIGHTS UP, BUT NO IGNITION. SEEMS LIKE A FUSE LET GO. THE RED LIGHT ON THE IGNITION MODULE DOES NOT LIGHT UP, BUT I DO GET THE LIGHT ON THE EHC.

WHAT IS WRONG ?

ANY HELP OR ANSWERS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED:up:

IT IS A 2004 RIDGEBACK, 107 ci S&S

HEEEELP

Well Fat Cat used to tell us on the other sight to go through this routine. You didn't tell us what model year your bike is and your profile doesn't state either!

Lets see if I got this right;

1. when it quits will the start switch work
2. if not then hit the run button then see if it works
3. if not then what lights do you have on the ehc
4. if you have the run light (you see it after hitting the run light) then cycle the key switch
5. now does it work

Aw.... forgot the rest of it but it's somewhere on the other site.

I would say that if your starter started initially then quit then you have a bad starter.
You shouldn't have other keys on your key ring. They can wear our your switch.

Good luck,
Ray

HAD TO BE A FUSE

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT.

I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT EXTRA KEYS ON THE IGNITION.

JUST WENT INTO THE GARAGE, GOT BRAVE AND ATTEMPTED TO TRY EVERYTHIG THAT RAY SAID TO DO. AFTER REMOVING THE EXTRA KEY FROM HE IGNITION KEY (THANKS RAY)

I SWITCHED THE IGNITION ON, HIT THE RUN SWITCH, GOT THE SOLID RED LIGHT ON THE IGNITION MODULE, AND HIT THE START BUTTON AND SHE STARTED RIGHT UP LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED.

IS THERE A FUSE OR LINK THAT TRIPS WHEN IT GETS A SPIKE ?

THANKS FOR ALL OF YOU HELP.

I LOVE THIS SITE:whoop:

Good to hear that you got it going and hopefully you will have no other problems. Did notice that you mentioned that you had to shut it off in order to remove rotor lock.

Suggestion, for I have seen a few make the mistake big time, remove the rotor lock before you ever start it. Been more than a few that have started their bike and forgot the rotor lock and there and rolled a very short bit to either dump the bike, damage the rotor or at best look funny around all the friends.

Safe riding

I am not too good with bad habits, but I definately made a EFFORT not to do that on the Dog, thank goodness, I have remembered it all the times that I have had it on...

Glad you got it going. Removing the keys is a good thing. Keep and eye on your switch and make sure its not worn out that can cause a break in the electrical circuit.
Also, when you turn the key on watch the speedo and let it run it's cycle before starting the bike. It takes about 5 seconds.
Then keep and eye on the starter power cable. When mine have gone bad I have been able to see them smoking.

Make sure all your connections are tight and check you battery connections weakly as they work loose fast. I check mine weekly.

Oh last thing..... QUIT YELLING!!! :D :whoop:

Later,
Ray

This is the right site for help but everyone should put year of their bike down because not all Dogs work the same way

EHC light play a BIG role in how you cure a sick dog

Some times I have to press the "run" button more than once. I think I might be starting to have a problem there. But like previously stated make sure all your connections are tight, battery, starter, soleniod, etc.

RRRUFF, mine started doing that and they had to replace the circuit card on the hand controls. They came out with an updated board anyway if you still have the old ones.

Two things for you to consider.
1. Put your keys in the rotor lock pouch that way you have to phsically stick your hand in there to get the keys to the bike. If you forget then, well there is not much hope for you.
2. I am not sure if the 04 bikes had this bulletin or not but my 06 did. I was getting an engine stall going down the freeway from warm to cold. (Day to night or low elevation to high) Filled the EHC connection to the brim with dielectric grease and hasn't happened since. Humidity and moisture can play havoc on computer connections. In fact big dog recommends filling all connectors on the bike with dielectric grease.

Oh, put the rotor lock on the rear. The rear of the bike is alot heavier and if you forget to remove, it will just stop you and not lock up the front wheel.

Done !

Thats a great tip, Consider it done. Going to the Auto parts Store this evening to get some of that grease.

Off from work tomorrow, and will be greasing up all the connections.

Thanks again for everyones help:2thumbs:
