What jets are you running with Vance & Hines Big Radius?

Well, took the dog out for the 1st rip yesterday. Did 140 miles. I noticed cruising at 70+ mph it spits and sputters a little. Then when I ease into the throttle it feels like she is going to cut out. Now if I'm cruising below 70 or wide open throttle at any speed up to 100 no problems. Of course none of this happened when I test drove it because there wasn't a long enough stretch around the guys house...... I'm hoping he did not jet it correctly when he added the pipes. By the way it's a 04 chopper with a 107 motor. Thanks.

You should ride the dog at various RPM ranges and try to maintain a constant 40-50 mph. If the engine is popping or sneezing in the air cleaner it can indicate a lean condition. Replace the intermediate jet (larger) to richen it up. If you notice stumbling or sputtering in can indicate rich condition. Replace the intermediate (smaller) to lean it out.

To test the main jet, do a high gear roll from 50 to 70 mph. If the engine back fires or breaks up in the carb, increase the main jet. If the engine is flat or will not accelerate, decrease the main jet.

In so many words, that is what the S&S Shorty Carb Adjustment instructions say. Good Luck

78 and 31. Big Radius pipes with no baffles. Force Winder intake.
are you running torque cones?

I have the same set-up (pipes & Force Winder) but, I'm running baffles. I'm running a 80 & 33 with a 124ci.

Also, from everything I've read & heard about the Force Winder..........bikes are a bitch to tune with them. They're more for show than anything else.

The bike starts, idles and rides great up to about 60. WOT at any speed is also fine. I have no decel pop's. The problem is at about 65+ when I roll into the throttle it stumbles. I tried the int jet change to 295. That's the only other one I had and now it's worse. I pulled the plugs after the 2 mile rip and they are WHITE.....so I'll pick up a 33 tomorrow and see what that does.

Read my carb how to adjust thread...

At about 75mph +/- you are at about 2750rpm and at the top of the int jet range... your bike wants more gas, so it backfires thru the carb and the power cuts out. Go up on the int jet as said and readjust.

Well I just put in a 33 and it still has the same problem. I also pulled the carb, cleaned it, put a rebuild kit in for the accelerator pump while I was at it because I noticed a very small leak and put the stock BDM air cleaner back on. I'll head back to the store for a 34 and a 35 this time.

Finally figured it out. I got a bigger jet and the same problem. Time to back track. I started the bike and ran it at 2k rpm then sprayed carb cleaner all over the carb and intake. No leaks just as before. Pulled the plugs and white as could be but with this size jet I figured they would be black. Next I pulled the entire carb off and ripped it apart. I cleaned the entire carb before and blew it out with a air hose. This time I took a needle to the 4 holes where the inter jet shoots the gas into. I scraped the heck out of them then hit it with carb cleaner and the air gun again. I put the 33 jet back in because for my mods I don't think anything higher would be of benefit. Put the carb back on the bike, adjusted it and wouldn't you know it it drives like a charm. There much have been dirt in the holes that spray the gas into the throttle body. I pulled the plugs when I got back and the front one is perfect. The rear is a little leaner but no where dangerous which if I'm not mistaken is normal. In the end I'm running a 33 and 78. I racked my brain on this one but am glad it's finally running right....well until another problem came up that I'll post on a different thread.

Thanks for everyones help.

I installed a S&S Dual Runner this last weekend and I'm having some problems getting things tweaked in. Bike is a 2004 Chop with 107, V&H 2 into 2 NO baffles. Triple X "G" mini Taz fully modified carb. Befgore putting the Dual Runner on bike was running great with stock breather & K&N filter 31 intermediate and 72 main jets. Bike stumbles when throttle is sharply cracked. I currently have a 32/80 setup and am still fighting the stumble when throttle is sharply rolled. Bike seems to be running fine on the open road although I have not been able to put many miles on it since last weekend.

Open to suggestions!

Thanks,

Pull the bowl vent plug

And be sure you have it properly adjusted... ie the accel pump.

Like Gas said. I had to do this too. Per S&S:
If the S&S teardrop air cleaner is being replaced with an aftermarket air cleaner be sure to remove the auxiliary bowl vent screw (#14). Never use a velocity stack on a street driven motorcycle! Poor throttle response will be experienced.
