What brake fluid to use?

Whatever it is make sure you use the correct kind!!! Dot 5 is silicone based and does not mix with DOT 3/4 or DOT 4 brake fluids (which are glycol based). Also, make sure you let the brake fluid sit for at least an hour after you bring it home because silicon based fluids have tendency to aerate (think of a shaken up can of soda). It's also more corrosion prone, and doesn't give any visual cues to determine it's moisture content... basically that's a fancy way of saying you need to change it more often than glycol-based brake fluids.

Did I also read some where that DOT 5 is less hazardess to clear coats and paint if contact is made?

i hate the dot 5. doesnt mix with water so after a while it collects condensation. water boils at 212, so that and aeration is were the spongy feeling comes into play.

motul 600 RBF has a dry boiling point of 593 and wet at 420. :2thumbs:

note: the system has to be fully flushed to switch

The dot 5 I bought at NAPA was purple colored. I think BDM uses a clear, but as long as it's dot 5 it should be ok.
