Your best bet may be to just clean up the wiring and leave it hardwired. From what I’ve seen, it was the original fix for a bad ehc. See if someone sells a chopper harness kit to clean it up and add turn signals back in to it.

Your bike has been old schooled the wrong way and there is no going back. This is a great kit and cheap.:
