Went for a ride and my dog got sick

If you had a compression gauge we could check your compression real quick and see if compression is good in both cylinders. That would give us a much better idea of what is going on in terms of it being mechanical or electrical. The gauge I have is cool because all I have to do is pull the plug, push the gauge against the plug bore and turn the engine over a few times. If you have good compression in both cylinders then we would want to start looking at your electrical. You can pick a gauge up pretty cheap at an auto parts store. ALso, now that you ran it again, you should pull the plugs and see whats up with them. If you have good compression but fuel build up on that front cylinder again then we would know your not getting any spark, or not enough at least, to that front cylinder.
Of course without doing all this I can only speculate:job:.

Oh and as far as the valve noise goes prepare yourself because with TPs it is probably only going to keep getting worse up to a point. I can hear my valves over my pipes with my tunes on. I ask riders around me if they can hear them but they say they can't so I live with it.

Thanks guys, just got in from a night out on the town. I'll check it out in the morning and see where I stand. I do not have a compression gauge, but will see if I can get my hands on one.

Thanks for the help and the suggestions

New plugs look good. No signs of any seepage. I think I'm just going to head to the shop with it. I really wish I were a better mechanic . . . maybe someday! At least guys like me help keep our local mechanics in business! Thanks for the help and the suggestions, and I'll post back up what caused the issue.

I've owned Kawaski's, Honda's, and Harley's, but this is my first Big Dog. Have always been anal about maintenance, and I am at least able to perform that myself. I usually change all fluids every 2,000 miles, I know that's overkill with synthetics, but have always been of the mindset pay now or pay a lot later. Bought this bike at the end of Novemeber 09 with 3,400 miles and have only put 500 miles on it since then. I knew up front that wrenching would be required, and I just hoped routine maintenance would help eliminate a lot of issues. I'm going to a BDM service center, Twisted Cycle in Greensboro for a visit, as I hear they're a good bunch of guys. I was hoping to get to know them . . . just a little later rather than sooner!

Definitely kep us in the loop if you would. Discussions like this give us knowledge and bases to help other Dog owners.
Good Luck I really hope it is something minor.

Dog is well

Took the bike to Twisted Cycle Thursday afternoon, they called Friday afternoon and said it's ready to ride! It was the front cylinder intake pushrod. Went ahead and had the 5k service done early. Picking it up in the morning, supposed to be 29 here tonight, high 61 tomorrow . . . looks like a beautiful day for a ride!

Just curious. Was the pushrod bent, loose or other? So, did they replace it or just adjust it? Glad you're back up and running. Good Ridin' down south tomorrow too! Later

Might also want to check valve adjustment, how many miles are on it? Well got my suggestion in late ha-ha

Pushrod was not bent, just loose. I live abount 1 mile off a hwy, and I had been running 70mph for about 30 miles. Bike was running fine until I pulled into my driveway, and then it was like all of a sudden, no power. Curious as to how it could have loosened up like that.

Oh they loosen up alright. Mine are pretty noisy right now, so I will be adjusting them tomorrow sometime; have to take the other bike out for a ride before the rains come. Usually requires adjusting around 2500 miles.

Damn totally forgot about that issue, and it happened to me early on with my 06 K9. Although it hasn't happened again since. Glad to hear it was minor though.

Here's what really thru me, mine are really not that noisy, so to all of a sudden loose power and have all that valve train noise, I was thinking way more serious than just a pushrod adjustment. I figured pushrod noise would have gradually increased giving me some kind of warning sign. I've read enough of the threads by Gas and Raywood that I should have remembered to start with the simple things first. I really appreciate everyone's comments and I'm sure if I was a better mechanic(someday!) you all would have helped me solve this issue.:2thumbs:

Dog just dosen't like going home!

Seems like the Dog just dosen't like going home!
Sorry, I had to. Good luck with your Dog. Hope all works out.

Well, it seems that Mad Dog's statement might just be true . . . I think my Dog DOESN'T like going home! Took a 150 mile ride yesterday to Hanging Rock State Park, Danbury, NC. It was a beautiful day for a ride here in the mid-Atlantic!!! So is today and tomorrow, but I don't think I'll be going anywhere.:( Pulling up to my garage, I heard a pop and had smoke coming out around my feet. Pulled right up to the garden hose and put the fire out! If it was going to happen, it could not have happened at a better time and place. The voltage regualtor was fried and the wires were melted in two. The wires going to the Stator are fine. Attached pic of the VR. Luckily, no fire damage and I don't think there was any other damage done except the VR.
