I went for a short ride on 6/22/10 ,when i got home from Laconia on my Ridgeback.I was stopping for a light when i noticed heavy smoke engulfing my sled. I pulled in a strip mall at the light looking like I was riding a phoenix. Two guys from a pizza joint ran out and asked if i needied anything as i was ripping off my vest to smother the fire. As I was trying to put out the fire, a guy from the pizza joint gave me a small bucket of water to douse the flames.I read here on the forums about the recall,i have the 40 amp fuse Fix .I guess they never checked the voltage regulator ! i just emailed bigdog some pics.I hope i don't get the same BS answer i got last month about my sidecovers, cause my bike is out of warranty.By the way hows that sidecover look i fabbed up.Its stainless steel, sandblasted and painted with black high gloss epoxy appliance paint with automotive trim ! I was taking it for a test ride when i transformed into the Human Torch !

save yourself the hassle and replace the voltage reg yourself. I'm not sure which one works for our bikes but it is posted on the forum somewhere. as for the side covers they look good from what I can see.

Man that sucks, must have been a 39.5 amp fire. Not sure what the nipples have to do with the subject of this thread, but they sure made me feel better after seeing your fried voltage regulator.

That's what I did. Replaced the regulator myself. My bike is a 2008 and the regulator went with only 2500 miles on the bike. Instead of having it replaced under warranty, and hauling it 150 mi. one way, I bought one and put it in myself. Electronics is still an issue with these bikes. My EHC is an older style with the serial connector. How can they put an outdated EHC on a bike that is only 2 years old? Go figure.... Wire plus in the future!

Good post, this happened to my buddies 05 Chopper last night. Made for a pretty spectacular sight going down the highway at 80mph! Its an easy fix
