Two questions please...

First question has to do the the primary cover. I want to remove the primary cover to inspect everything, and I need to know if there is a specific pattern to put the bolts back on the cover, and torque wrench value, and secondly, the left turn indicator on the speedo quit working. Do I have to replace the entire speedo to get the little orange arrow to light up again?

There is a sequence to torque'ing on the primary cover... its in the manual...

As far as the turn indicator... IDK

Thanks for the reply, Gasman, I was hoping there was a how-to thread on this but I have not been able to find it. I have ordered to service manual from Nelson, but it has'nt arrived yet. My K&P filter did arrive today, however, and I was hoping I could put that on and have a look see inside the primary at the same time.

The turn indicator; is it just the indicator or is the turn signal inop as well? If it is the latter, check the connection in the switch housing. Mine came off and I had the same problem.

The primary cover removal and replacement is detailed in your owners manual. You can download this info off bdm.com. Hope this helps. As far as the indicator light goes, pull the tank and look for chafed wires from that turn signal, it could be the EHC though. :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Thanks for the replies, uh, let's see, about the turn indicator, the turn signal itsself works good, it's just the little orange arrow on the bottom of the speedo that won't work. The right one does, the left one don't. It's kinda bizzare, huh?

Oh, I looked at my downloaded owner's manual for the primary cover info, but they didn't put it in there. It tells how to remove the inspection cover, but that's all. I want to take the whole thing off of I can see the clutch and check it. I think I am getting an abnormal amount of noise from the primary.

I'm all for service manuals ..but its a cover for god sake just start tighting from the center and work towards the ends "front and back" keep in mind its a O ring sealed cover so do not over tighten and use lock-tight on clean threads .its recomended to use a new o-ring but if the old one inspects ok just clean it and reoil it...but the o-rings are cheep and its good practice to replace .

KD, I've pulled my primary cover lots of times and I never worried about a pattern on putting it back on. More important to ensure the o-rings don't get pinched.

As for the turn signal indicator I would ensure all the connectors are tight or not grounded. You may find lots of grounded wires under the tank. I've had a few under there.
But if it turns out to be the indicator then you will need to order a new tach board only. It's the green ring in the picture but I'm sure you have a loose wire somewhere.
