Turn Signal Help/Ideas

I figured I would pick your guys brains for some ideas or suggestions here.

Not to give a long story, but my girlfriend recently lost her job, and money has become a bit tighter then normal right now. We just moved out to RI, and they require inspections every year now, where in CT, I did not have this issue. My left side turn signal was not working, and, on top of the fact I thought they were ugly, the turn signals that were on the bike were not visible at all.

I am getting the bike ready to be painted, and figured I would throw some new turn signals on the bike while I had it apart. I knew there would be some issues with the struts taking the lights off, but its WAY worse then I though.:angry::angry:

I am not sure I really have the extra $ to drop on some new struts right now, but need to try to at least "mask" some of the issues.

In the picture you can see where the previous owner drilled 2 holes to mount the lights and another hole to run the wire. If I can cover some (mainly the big hole he drilled for the wire) that would be awesome. I can live with it for the year until the money situation is a little better for me. I dont really want to run the same lights, but I figure someone knows of another one I can flush mount to hide the mess.

While the state requires a inspection, does it require signals? In virginia we are required to have a inspection but not required to have signals :hi:

Might try to drill them to the right size and put some hot toppers in them.
Not too sure what you mean by hot toppers...

I was thinking about a set of lights like these here:
Chrome Mini Hot Spot Indicator Lights

Not the best looking lights, but with the flat base, they "should" cover the holes that were drilled. If I have to leave 1 of the little holes there, Im not that worried, just need to cover the big mess in the middle.

****edit****
Google works wonders haha. The hot toppers could be an option at least for the 2 smaller holes, but I really need to try to cover up the bigger mess he made running the wires.

Thanks for the idea!

I looked into it today. As far as I can tell I do need to use turn signals, and run 2 mirrors here in RI. :job:

the option with the lights that you posted above look like you could "hide" that mess. Or if you buy a sissy bar that will hide, sort of...side profile, that ugly hole. Sucks because not even 1 year ago i sold an extra sissy bar I had. The sissy bar side plate picks up, starting with the aft strut mount bolt, #2 hole and ends at the next hole the #3 hole. I have the Quick Release sissy bar and love it....takes 20 secs. to put the sissy bar on.

The holes could be filled in by a machine/welding shop -- I've had this done myself. You do have the issue of re-chroming or powder coating.

Duc Tape ?

I thought about the sissy bar. I called a dealer near me to find out about the struts, and they were actually cheaper than I thought they would be, only about $290/pr, but the problem is they are back ordered and cant tell me when they will be available.

I am going to be taking them to the machine shop that does all the work for my company and see if he has any ideas. Hes an old biker whos built a few customs himself. Hes hooked me up with a few other smaller jobs, maybe he can help with this.

As for the girlfriend, its hard to pass up a girl 10 years younger who is "built well" if you get what Im saying :2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs:

I wish I had more money.
Take it to a good welder and have them fillth holes and knock the weld back down with the grinder and buff it to a nice shine. That would probly be the cheapest route and not all that hard either.

I doubt if I can help, but I have an old set of struts from my 2003 Chopper and an extra set of cheap tail lights that I'm willing to let go really cheap. Since yours is a Husky, I doubt if the struts would fit.

If interested PM me and I'll send some photos if you want.

Just trying to help out.

I think I got a set of those side plates that Beast was talking about. The ones that you use to mount a sissy bar. I go dig around in the shed if you think they will work. I know I put them up somewhere so I could find them......This may take a while.....

Dan, thanks, I checked it out, doesnt look like they would work. From the sounds of it even from Big Dog, my year is almost a 1 of a kind. It seems all the parts that fit my bike only come on a 2000 Husky, even the '01's are different. :bang:

Someone actually tossed this idea to me too, then even gave me the number for a guy who can chrome them for me. I gave him a call, waiting to hear back. :2thumbs:

If you have them, I would deffinalty be interested. I was thinking about getting a sissy bar set up for the bike anyways. I was going to go check if an HD softail would work, since the struts are so damn close. Dont kill yourself though, if you stumble across them, let me know! :hi:

And for you....Shes the one with the dark hair and the Harley tank top on. Right before we left for Laconia last year. Sitting at the meeting spot, already fixing broken bikes...should have listened to the warning signs haha.

Jim the lights that you took off in your first post. They sell them in the JP catalog for like 40 buck.

Yeah I saw them in there, I just was never really crazy about them. Plus, everyone I rode with always complained they could never see them, even at night.

I ordered a set on the ones I posted, I pick them up tomorrow and will see how they look.
