Tuning help

Bike runs good but I am rarely getting above 30 mpg (mixed hiway & city). BDM claims 40+ and I think some of you have also indicated same. Any advise on carb adjustments for a stock motor/carb (07 Mastiff). I know running a motor too lean is not good...

Not enough info. What pipes, aircleaner, size jets you now have on your bike. What kind of riding you doing? City, country, F-way? Any alterations you've done recently that changed the MPG?

I get 40-45 on the hiway and right at 40 in town. You SHOULD be getting the same.

Aside from the Big Radius 2 into 2 exhaust and a K&M filter on the stock setup the dog is bone stock. Dealer installed the exhaust before purchase so I assume they used the BDM recommended jets (0.076 main / 0.031 intermediate).

Riding is mixed hiway and city. I don't pound on it much but do try to run in the 2000 - 3500 rpm range. As stated, I am averaging right around 30 mpg.

Bike runs good - fuel economy just not great. I am in Wisconsin.

Thought I might be too rich and leaning it out incrementally would be the approach.

The jetting doesn't seem to be off. Have you read/checked your spark plugs?

for awhile I was runnig my E carb with 2 turns out from seated on the air/fuel mixture screw. I re-justed it to 1 1/4 turns from seated and have noticed a little difference.

V - Just put new plugs in. Will inspect after I put a tank through it.

Chuck - '07 has the G carb. Don't know if we can compare the two, but that was the tract I was thinking of taking... Make small adjustments and check the plugs and mileage with each tank.

Dawg- i've always gotten around 30mpg until this year, now around 41-42. Did nothing different, bike is pretty much stock but for k&n filter and ground pounders. All i can think is break in time. After 6500 mi mileage shot up very noticeably!

That's interesting... Didn't have the scoot tuned around the time of the improvement did you?
