Triple Tree Shaft Cap Removal

Hey guys, trying to remove the stem cap from the lower tripple tree but the damn thing will loosen 1/4 turn and then seize. Tried heat, penatrating oil, and impact with no luck. Anyone else ran into this. Im thinking the cap and stem may be crossthreaded and that would suck big time. Yes, the set screw is removed.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :flag:

Check on the back side next to the frame, I think there is a set screw, if I remember correctly.

Its just pressed in
Take a large socket and tap it out

What is it your trying to do exactly?
If your trying to separate the triple trees then you don't want that to come out.
Its designed to just rotate in the tree in order to unscrew the stem so you can pull the trees apart.

Thanks I was going off the Bdm manual and it says to remove the bottom stem cap to seperate the trees. Thought the cap unscrewed from the stem by the diagram in the manual.how else can the trees seperate without removing the cap???

Got it off....damn that was an adventure. The bottom cap as shown with the socket attached normally unscrews from the lower portion of the stem allowing the lower tree to come off. This allows the upper tree and stem to stay in the neck until ready to be removed. Unfortunately my cap was siezed on since the shop that installed it at the previous 10k mile service installed the shaft upside down! This caused the stem to actually uncrewed from the top tree. Now I need a new stem, cap, and tree since the threads were damaged during removal. This turned out to be an expensive bearing change...lol

I thought that was all in one, cause aren't you supposed to tighten that (where your socket is) to set up front wheel drop off?

The screw that your socket is in (shaft cap) is what is used to adjust fall away. The set screw behind it on the lower tree is used to lock in the shaft cap to prevent it from backing out. This happened to me where both screws backed out and the trees started to separate. Set your fall away and then lock the locking screw against your shaft cap with blue loctite.
