Transmission wine, no cheese

Sniper stopped by yesterday and said he had a whining noise when he pulled the clutch in. I took it for a ride and told him it sounded more like a transmission bearing. Pulled it apart this afternoon, clutch is good. As a mater of fact, you could still read the brand name on the face of the disc. Hub nut was tight, but when I pulled it off, you can see where it was rubbing the inside of the inner primary.

Pulled the trans and took the cover off the side, full of metal shavings. Sorry no picture. Told him there was no reason to go any further, we'll just send if off to Andrew and let him rebuild it.
I guess it couldn't handle 145 hp. While we have it apart, I guess we'll freshen his up to.

Any ideas on why the clutch handle would be so hard to pull?

You think when the basket dropped down it started binding the push rod.just a thought
That's possible, I rechecked the rod, it's straight, but it has a groove rubbed around it. There isn't any rub marks on the pressure plate, and the ball ramp looks good, with plenty of grease. Cable is new.

What is this 145HP you speak of?

He redid his upper end. I don't know all the details, but from what I can remember, they took the heads and welded the inside and machined it out so they would flow better. They changed the pistons, but I don't know if the changed the jugs to something bigger. If they did it wasn't much. They bored out the carburetor, and add a thunder jet, and put the twin S&S air filter on it. Installed a 650 cam. I don't know what else. I saw the dyno sheet, it was almost a flat line clear across.
I know when you twist the throttle, the lip on the back of the seat, isn't enough to keep your butt on it.

It is a TC engine, I just happened across it and it caught my eye

Hid dyno sheet looked better than that, but he spent over $6000 to do it. Now he having to rebuild the transmission, and wondering why it trashed a bearing.

I don't understand why anyone needs all these gains the 117 is just fine the way it is,exhaust ,intake and cam I get but come on these aren't race bikes they really were intended to be hot looking cruisers imo
:agree:
Some people just can't.......I don't know how to put this. I guess some people just can't leave well enough alone.
:yesnod:
beef up the motor, then the clutch, then the tranny, then the belt, then the wheel bearings, its the trickle down effect.:old2:

Forgot I started a thread on this, so I'll repeat myself here.
I decided to do Sniper's transmission myself. Pulled it apart and found the bad bearing on the input shaft. I guess I'll replace all the bearings and seals, everything else looks good.
Talked to Baker today, going to try to get set up as a dealer.
