I have a 2007 K9... when I am in third gear and open up the throttle it feels like I am in neutral. it just revs real high and when i let go of the throttle it finally takes off. It does it in other gears sometimes but mainly third. Any ideas what is causing it?

Sounds like it to me. I would have the dealer check it out for you as it's still under warranty.

Good thing it is under warranty,,, Its just the matter of getting them to take care of it without all the BS

So I just got back from the dealership. They adjusted the clutch plate and clutch cable. On the way home it did the same thing all over again. Anyone have any ideas, the dealership has run out of ideas also.

its starting to do it in any gear at higher rpms. The dealer just called and said we might have to upgrade to a better clutch. He said they have had problems when people rid them hard with the clutch slipping.

Dead clutch. That's how you tell. Use a tall gear at a low speed and hit the throttle. If RPM goes up and not actual speed it's the clutch. Same thing if you have a passenger on the freeway in a tall gear and hit the gas and RPM goes up and not actual speed.

I had to upgrade to a Bandit after doing 600 cams, port and polished heads and upgraded ignition. Just that very slight increase in HP was enough to make the stock clutch slip.

Did you put synthetic oil in the primary?? next, maybe the clutch basket coming apart .. better get the cover off.

I did not want to bring up the basket... Another reason I went Bandit...
:)

Anyway he's under warranty and they should know when they open it up.

Have you dealer call my dealer Rochester Thunder. I'm going thru the same thing in 5th gear. Tried a known BD fix, didnt work. Now they are going to replace 2 shafts and 3 shifting forks. This is apparently not a isolated instance as the factory is telling my dealer this has worked on other bikes.

Good luck. Let me know how you make out.

As Lambo was saying to help figure out if the clutch is toast. Can also pull it up to a wall and try the burn out style test.

Also, check your adjustment before you junk it. I had a similar problem before on a rocket... adjustment was too tight... causing the plates to not get full engagement.
