Trans Fluid Question

I'm in the middle of changing all my fluids on my '09 K9, and noticed when I drained the transmission fluid, I only got about 16 oz (should be 20). Then I drained my primary and got about 36 oz (should be 32). So my tranny didn't have enough, and my primary had too much. Do I have a seal going out somewhere? I used spectro fluids and the bike shifts great. The bike has 8900 miles on it. I have done several fluid changes before, but this was the first time I have measured the amount drained.
Also, fluid is leaking out of that little primary button vent, and is making a mess of the underside of the motor. Didn't know if that was a related problem or not.

I had the same thing when i changed mine for the first time. you should be fine now

Excess fluid can get into the primary either from the transmission seal or the crankshaft seal. Maybe monitor both to see which is the culprit.
Blacktopper helped me change my crankshaft seal last year, it's quite a fight...wound up with a 3/4" three foot long torque wrench with a couple of feet of pipe to get the damn nut loose...I recall the transmission seal was easier.

There is a double lip seal in the left case of transmission around main shaft. It can go bad from...
-normal wear.
-Loose clutch hub nut.
-worn transmission bearings.

Thanks for the replies. How involved is it to change out that transmission seal? What all needs to come off? I'm just wondering how long it has been that way. This is the first time I've ever measured how much fluid I drain out.

The primary cover will have to come off, along with the entire primary/chain/clutch assembly. Once you remove clutch assembly, you will want to grab hold of the main shaft and see if it has any play up and down, side to side, in and out. If it has any, then the bearings in transmission are worn out of spec. The seal you are looking for is behind the clutch.

Thanks Andrew. I'm gonna ride it a few hundred miles and then drain the fluids again to confirm I have a problem.
