Torquing Sissy Bar Bolts

Does anyone have the torque specs for the sissy bar bolts? Searched previous threds but couldn't find it. Thanks

I don't now... but maybe this will bounce it and somebody will get it for you. Otherwise when I get home I can check.

I generally just do the german meathod... "good n tite"

Thanks Gas, I figured one grunt would do but thought I would see if there was an actual torquing requirement given all of the recent problems with the sissy bar.

Nothing in my 05 manual on sissybar but it does display a general torque guide.
Hope this will be useful.

I just installed mine and I think the instructions said to torque to 20-22 ft. lbs. and use loctite. Threw the instructions away yesterday.

Did anyone ever find out what the torque value was? The sissy bar on my 03 installs from the top of the struts and bolts from the bottom up and calls for 43ft lbs on the two bolts.

That seems a little excessive.

On my 06 Ridgeback it says, blue loctite & 38-40ft lbs.

With all the threads I've read where folks have had sissy bars come loose, just be sure to locktite'em.

I have a tall sissy bar on my 06 k9 and have broken two of the bolts that come with it.
Went to Ace and got some stronger bolts, just tightened them up as tight as I could and put blue loc-tite on them. Hven't had any problems since.

What Brad said, gotta loctite em. Mine for some reason always spun loose on the right side. Took out my belt and cover. The bar I have on now I bought stainless bolts, seems to hold better without loctite. I know, living on the edge. I had duct tape under the struts for a month before I trusted them. All is good.:2thumbs:

Throw the sissy bar supplied bolts away and buy some stainless. The bolts are cast and I broke mine first time I torqued them.
