Took a Spill

Took a spill on the dog this morning in the dark. On the way to work today, bike started cutting out. RPM lights were flashing and cutting off along with the Dakota gauge. I was pulling over slowly thinking I can get on the sidewalk, this is in the dark about 6:30am. Either the sugar sand or the sidewalk edge got me, honestly don’t know which but I hit the ground without so much as a second to prepare for it.

A little sore but all in all, me and the bike turned out fine. I rode back home, about 5 miles in 1st gear, cut out 20 times at least and coasted, started, coasted till I got home. I then jumped in the wife’s car and went to work. Sore as heck and hurt more throughout the day but came home and jumped on the mower which got me loose.

Left side peg mount was broken and left side mirror is broken, also bent the tag bracket. :oldthumbsup:That’s it. No paint or chrome damage, bike came down on the sidewalk but the dirt slowed it down a lot. The tag bracket and the peg took the brunt of it. I’ll need a new mount for my left peg and figure out how to straighten the shifter bracket, while I tear into it to see what the heck is wrong. It’s a dog life and that’s part of it sometimes. Y’all be safe out there.

Glad to hear your OK!! Good Karma was with you. I had a similar situation once and it turned out to be just a loose connection on the battery. The bike started cutting out and when it restarted I was out of position and it was like a mini high side jerk but luckily I didn't go down. I carry a 10mm wrench on my key chain ever since and tighten/check my battery before each ride.

Dang it! Glad you (and the bike for the most part) are ok! I have gone down a few times (luckily none on the dog) and have been fortunate that none have been as bad as they could have been...my ego was banged up more then I or the bike was.
Parts for the bike are cheaper then fixing you and it sounds like the parts that hit are going to be pretty easy to get fixed up.
Also, it sounds like it might be a voltage issue (battery connection). I have had the lights flashing after installing a new battery to find that I didn't have the terminals as tight as I thought they should be. Start there and let us know.

I did change the battery but was having the issues before. I found a grounded wire in the headlight bucket but will need to do a thorough inspection.

All that matters is you are in good shape! One thing I learned in my dirtbike days is and it's more important on these bikes, if you are going down make sure it's on the left side the much cheaper side...lol.
