Tire Question please

I have an 08 mastiff, I currently have about 1200 miles on the bike, I just noticed in the last 200 miles my front tire has excessive wear on both sides, not the middle though it looks fine. Its to the point where the rubber is rolling up on the tire to some degree. Is it possible the front tire having to keep up with the rear creates enormous amount of pressure on the tire.

What's on the newer Mastiffs? Avon or Metzler?

I will have to add its not a lot of highway miles, but some. I have had a sport bike with a race tire, super soft rubber and it gave about the same effect as my front tire is doing now. I just couldn't imagine its doing that much work, or I'm putting it to its full potential and I'm sure the compound of the tire is different as well.

I'd say for sure it is due to you running it low on air at some point. The center of the tire collapses and it runs on the outer edges.

Even if you said you kept the tire pressure up, and you were the worlds most aggressive chopper rider on the planet, You wouldn't wear out that front tire in 1200 miles unless it was run at low psi.

Well its not wore out, but if I had to guess about 2500 miles and its gone. What mileage have we been getting out of the front tires on here.

I also have another question, I was wanting to add the dyna beads to the tires. What my question was, what if my front tire has no weights at all the the rear has the smallest weight. The bike is smooth to me, when I purchased the bike I noticed no weights on the front and almost none on the back. Would it hurt to add dyna beads if to say in fact it was a true wheel?

You need to air them tires up a little. At least 40 up front and 42 psi in the rear, if you don't it will wear the outside of the tire. I put 35 PSI on my tailer tires thinking that should be enough to haul the dog. I got to sturgis and saw what 1700 miles can do to a tire that is improperly inflated. I read the tire pressure recommendation on the side wall and it said max inflation 55 PSI. :spank: So I put 52 PSI for the trip home and now they look the way they should or at least it looks even. I keep my dog tires at 40 in front and 42in the rear . :2thumbs:

Some of the front tires never were balanced. If it did, it could be almost 1/4 oz out of balance and not have a weight on it. Thing is, if it is out just a little, the more and more you ride, the more the tire wears out of balance and will get worse. With the recommended beads in the tire, even if they are not needed when the tire is new, they will keep the tire true it's entire life and also not allow it to start cupping. So, no it won't hurt to add them to true wheels, because after 3000 miles they will not be true anymore without them.

My front tire just got replaced when I did my rear at 8500 miles.

Only reason I did the front tire is not because it was wore but the florida sun has started to dry crack it a bit.

Northern state guys running good tire pressure in the front all the time, should have no problem getting 10-12K miles out of it.
