Tire Dates?

Ok I have searched and can't find anything on tire manufacture dates. I received tires for christmas one year for the bike 300mm rear- 21 front. I now need to replace my tires that are to the point its time for new. The question is the date on the rear tire are dated for 04 on rear and front is 06. I have been told from different people that 4 years old ok and also heard 6-7 years old is most you should go. With that being said the tires have been stored inside a controled temp back bedroom on carpet. Just wanted to get some opinions?

I can't remember where I saw it... maybe the speed channel or ABC News, but 7 years is the life term according to the "experts". Also they were talking about car tires. Something about tires sitting in warehouses for 10 years and being sold as new.

I'd use them.
Just watch for any signs of aging... cracking, etc.

Seven years is recommended as the chems start breaking down and you'll start getting some dry rot and sidewall degeneration. I've had to replace the OL's tires for this reason - sucks but with only 8000 miles her OEM HD tires from 2001 were showing the signs.....

6-7 years is typical, however thats if they are exposed to the ultra violet rays of the sun. If these tires were inside, I would say you have a few nore years than the norm left on them. The date code is 4 numbers melted in the tire together 1206 would be the 12th week of 2006 for manufacture.
