Throttle cables

Energy One

This may be a question specifically for Sul or Hoat but I fitted the PSI carb today and have issues. The carb will not open all the way before the throttle grip stops at WOT and although when you let go of the throttle it snaps back to the idle position you can push it farther very easily, which pushes the pull cable out of its seat at the handebar end. I'm guessing I've got my throttle cables wrong and that the open cable is too short (not good) and the close cable too long and that I read the instructions wrong? Does this sound right? I cannot adjust it enough with the adjusters alone.

Any help appreciated as always.

Cheers
Lee

thanks Sul - I did all that but think I misread the instructions on the 2 3/4" bit. I'm thinking that because I can't open the slide all the way I may have cut the cable too short? Also, because I can roll the throttle past the idle position I'm thinking there is too much slack in the throttle cable which closes the carb?

Does that make sense?

I was thinking that your cable was to long by your description. how did it work out?

you hit the nail on the head - I cut maybe an inch and a half off the main cable and it sorted it right out - the slide now opens fully and you cannot roll the throttle forward past the idle position

thank you both for your help on this one

now I need a new fuel line as mine is an inch too short!

Lee,
I learn something every time I follow up on your questions. A bunch of guys here really have solid info and I have PMed them on the side to ask questions as well.
Way to go Sulconst2 and Hoat......You are renowned across the sea as well:2thumbs:

these boys certainly know what they're talking about - I still can't get it straight in my head how the length of these cables cause what they cause but now that it is working properly (thanks to Sul and Hoat) I'm not too bothered

Hey Sul - presumably your carb has two overflow hoses as well? just out of interest do you know why there are two?

Sul - you are of course quite right - I looked again tonight and the inlet does swivel as you say. I don't think the hose would still reach though so I put a new one on there.

absolutely

I'm just waiting on the wheels now - I was very tempted to try and fire it up yesterday on the lift (with an additional jack to support it) but thought better of it. Hopefully in the next couple of days.
