Think my ignition module is out???

Went riding the other day and it was dry outside. While the bike sat a bit it started raining. I decided to skoot in case it started raining more. Needless to say it looks like water got into the hand control on the left side so I parked the bike under a gas station pump in hopes to get it out. Well next thing I know the horn starts firing off. Turn off the ignition and back on horn is still roaring...

Well I say screw it! I'm just gonna ride it while it goes off so I can get home and park the bike. Next thing I know the bike just dies when I start it..no power at all. Take the seat off and notice the left side screw on the battery terminal is loose. Tighten it back up and now I have power and the horn is still roaring. I just crank the bike up and ride about half a mile then the bike like stalls out. SO I go to crank her again and nothing..see a little smoke coming from under my arse...Pull the bikle over and pop the seat off and blow the smoke away.

When I turn the key the high beam stays on, horn is not working, can't crank the bike and no turn signals work. Looks like the thunderheart module is fried??? No light comes on on the module when I turn the key.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Are you sure its your Ignition module or are we talking about the EHC?

Sounds to me the EHC is done. If the bike just dies but cranks (no Spark) I would say Ign Module but horn, lights etc they go through the EHC. Really hate to tell you this but it is time to rewire.

The horn issue happened to me, my WirePlus switch module as the issue. It all started with a 10 amp fuse blowing which disable the bike until I replaced the fuse. Then the horn would not turn off. Switch Module replaced under warranty and all is good.

Good question... I may be wrong (most likely) in the terminology. Here is a pic I took with the module circled in question.

Yes that is your ignition module
When you turn the key and hit the Run button you should see the Red LED light up
If you don't then you need to get your schematic out, find the power lead and check for voltage when you turn on the bike and press the run button

Also look at your EHC lights on the module beneath the ignition module.
It will tell you if you have open circuits based on the LEDs

ok, cool. Yes, I get no lights on the ignition module anymore when I turn the key. I'll check later when I get home. Thank you Curtis...

Oh yeah, I never had to hit run when I got the bike. the ignition was rewired by wimmer. I just hit Start after turning the key. But I've always noticed the light on this module would blink or be on..when the key was turned...Now nothing.

I'm not sure to be honest. I can't remember where the reciept is (guy I bought it from gave it to me). I wanna say he paid like 1k for the rewire I think..I think but it also included the dakota speedo in that price. I'm sure I could call the guys up at Wimmer and ask. They were a bunch of cool dudes.

I see some deutsch plugs in there. So, I am thinking Wire Plus is installed. For me, when I turn the ignition switch on, I can go straight for the Start button once the startup sequence is over (i.e. headlight goes to hi then low which is most obvious, etc). Are you saying when you depress the run or off, it does not turn on and off the ignition module anymore? Also, there should be some lights on your Wire Plus module. Can you tell what it is doing?

PDM also uses deutsch plugs from what I saw today and I don't know the sequence for starting for the PDM system.

Bet your switch module is jacked,, the one on the left. I had no lights on my ignition module too when module went south. Sent it into wireplus and bench tested bad. new module fixed everything. Unplug the deutsch, the one with that white plug in it, you'll have to cut one black wire, then send it into wp for test. Bad news is that your bike will be down a few weeks.

Check to see if you got fire at the plugs. No fire, your coil ain't getting juice fron the switch module assuming coil is good. .

That first picture component on the right looks like a WP power module. Are there numbers and letters on it?
