I was riding my usual ride through the country last Monday and just happened to have the video camera on when I went to pass actually the rural mail carrier in this red pick up. I was running 50-60ish when I went by him as he continued to cross the yellow line. I had that funny feeeling he wasn't paying attention,, probably thumbing through mail going to his next stop. Here is a still shot,, I has glad I was on something with some power,, ay

You all be careful out there,,

It looks like you both crossed the solid yellow line. Two Wrongs don't make a Right. Having said that, He still wasn't paying attention!

Some times you get set up and some times you set yourself up. Gptta keep your guard up.There is a fence on the left of the road and the mail carrier may have just pulled back on the road---only Ray can answer this. Nice scenery.

Could be the camera but it looks like this was on a hill ?? Really ?
Yes sir it was a hill, with about 500 yards to the top of it, and he had just pulled away from a mail box, barely moving when I realized he is coming across the line looking down at mail in his lap,,,I was too deep into then to let off so I didn't,,,

Since most people don't live in area's where you have your mail delivered by Bob in his pickup, let me explain what was most likely happening here. At least for us in NH, our country roads don't have breakdown lanes. Its the lane, then dirt. Just like what I see in his photo. If the mail guy (Bob) is at the mail box, you have to go around him. It doesn't matter if there is a solid yellow, or double yellow. He is blocking the road, and stopped(welcome to the bACK country).

My guess would be, that is what was happening, as Ray was on his bike. He was going around him, and the mail man pulled out, and crossed the line. We have a lot of roads in NH that dont even have a line painted on them.

Same thing with garbage pickup, only they got a bigger truck and men running back and forth--just gotta keep on top of the back roads riding.

It does appear to be a solid yellow line on yours/and his side!
you can only control your vehicle/ride so safety first
I would not pass in a no passing zone even if it was safe to do so that could be a deadly habit to start.....besides when I am out on the dog I am in no hurry anyway :D

be safe

Loud pipes save lives . Shocked he didn't hear you coming . Then again sometimes that don't make a difference.

You got to understand those mail carriers. They like to listen to music when delivering, so he might not have heard Ray because he was probably sorting the mail and listening to music...

Bill is correct, but I went back and looked at the video, and where the exact point I crossed into the other lane to pass Bob, I crossed double yellows as he pulled away from the mailbox. When I saw he was coming farther than I had expected him to the left, I throttled it a bit, maybe more than a bit.

Oh, this is so far out in the country there is no garbage pickup, you take it to the dump yourself or burn it. I don't pass garbage trucks, never know who might step out.
