Texas State Inspections

I am trying to find out what I need to do to license my bike in Texas. I keep seeing references to a " State Inspection." I am wondering what is inspected and where would be the best place to have an inspection in the Dallas area. I really hope they do not check exhaust!!!

Thanks for any info I can get.

The weird part about Texas is that the place where you get your license is not the same place that you register your vehicles. At least I thought it was weird after being from MA with the DMV which is a one-stop shop.

Texas has independent tax collectors who you have to go into their office to register your bike and pay a "new resident" tax. I brought a bike down here and I had to pay a new resident tax on my truck, and my bike. I think the new resident tax is about $50-75'ish. There is a Dallas County Tax collectors office off of 35E North of 635, and about a mile away is a place called Dream Machines of Dallas. They got some nice bikes, and should give you an inspection no problem. Not sure if they are picky or not though haven't tried them yet.

After you get your bike registered you can take it to an inspection station, I bought my dog here so it came from the dealer inspected not sure about the exhaust. However I did bring my last car to a place called CarSpa which washes cars and does oil changes. They inspected my bike, guy didn't have a clue what he was doing so he just looked at it and made sure the horn worked and got my sticker! Kid definitely wouldn't question an exhaust. The only thing I would be concerned about is he made me get up to 30 mph in the small parking lot and stop using my front brake. I was on a CBR so I can just whip it around easy, the big dog not see easy to do it.

Exhaust is not part of the Inspection YET! To be honest I see it coming in the future because there are far to many people complaining about exhaust noise from motorcycles.

I believe there is a few states which "technically" have a decibal restriction just do not think it is strictly enforced.

For Example MA law states:
Decibels/Maximum Sound: Maximum allowable A-weighted sound levels as measured from 50 feet (Chapter 90, Sec. 7T): 82dBA at 45mph or less; 86dBA over 45mph. Stationary noise levels: Motorcycles required to be registered for operation on the ways of the commonwealth shall not exceed the following noise levels when operated at 1/2 redline speed--99dBA manufactured after 1/1/86--102dBA manufactured before 1/1/86
.

not sure how you enforce redline line db levels

Just get a tag and ins. and ride on. I haven't had an inspection done in 5 yrs. But I do my own maint. also. Some that don't do maint. need inspections. I figure at $25/insp. x 5yrs=$125 and the fine is only $93.50, I'm ahead of the game. I went on a ride with 5 LEO's a couple years ago and one of them made the comment that only one of the 6 bikes was current on inspection.:whoop::cheers:

I live in Texas. If you re-register your bike, you have to have an inspection sheet to turn in to get the tags changed. Harley has been out 2 years as my dealership does not do them and the dog is going on 2 years as well. Ride On. I have been stopped twice so the could oogle over my dog and not a one checked the inspection.
