Texas Lane splitting

John Carona is trying to pass a bill that will allow riders in Texas to Lane split in Traffic at speeds under 20mph. I'm sure we can all appreciate that in August and July. So write a Texas rep. and tell them to back that bill here is the link to write them it takes 1 min if you type at a decent speed.

Texas House of Representatives

If you don't live in Texas write anyways you'll appreciate it come ROT rally

What is the cons to lane splitting?

They've been ok about ignoring us when we're riding the shoulder in hardcore traffic ... but I would be nervous about splitting. Cagers with ragers could really mess ya up.

Will still write in of course :2thumbs:

Been riding for 25 plus years on and off road and done some very insane things on a bike, but only when I felt that I was 100% in control of my environment. You'll never have that sharing the road with a bazillion other people. Thats why I don't do it. You never know when this could happen: Motorcycle crash lane splitting in California | 1st5ive.com
The lane splitting debate kinda follows the same path as the Pitbulls are inherently aggressive debate. Both sides feeling equally strong in their belief and never backing down. :zz2cents:

It's just another reason to have loud pipes. I have done it a few times but I usually keep it a gear lower then I should.

I live in California and I still will pretty much only split lanes at stop lights and even then you'll come across the occassional asshole who doesn't think you should be allowed and tries to squeeze you. It seems it's much easier to try to run over someone splitting lanes or using the HOV lane then write a congressman and express your opinion against it. It's even worse now with the HOV lanes (which are EVERYWHERE here) because they stopped putting "motorcycles ok" on all the signs so a lot of drivers still think it's the riders breaking the law and they want to "let you know" sometimes.

When I see the guys on the freeway lane splitting doing 50 or 60mph between 30mph traffic I think they're completely nuts quite honestly. As far as I know it's legal at any speed here but that's just asking for trouble imo.

Is there currently a law against it in Texas? I know in California, there is no law for or against. Seems like its better off to not even have it debated if it could result in a law against it.

I think its a law that should pass, doesnt mean you HAVE to lane split, more rights for BIKERS is a good thing :2thumbs:
I don't disagree with this but keep in mind also that the young guys on sportbikes are the ones most likely to overdo it and abuse it and drive all of our insurance rates up. Lane splitting is at the riders discretion and risk so it's not going to be the car who is at fault most times, especially in those scenarios I mentioned previously. It wouldn't surprise me if insurance rates go up immediately following the law passing. However, I still wouldn't mind seeing it pass in Texas (my true home) just like you said.

In Florida your not even supposed to share lanes or ride side by side with another motorcycle. People do it all the time and hardly anything ever gets said. You are supposed to ride in a staggered formation.

Oh Geeeeees....... Don’t get me started on the sport bike riders fucking it up for every one else comment.

Legal or Not / Right or Wrong, I think the statement "Lane splitting puts bikers at risk" can be agreed upon.

Reminds me when I was at bike week in Daytona this year, I decided to split lanes trying to get back to camp from the speedway one day; (that damn left turn lane, short light deal) well these guys in one of those little 2 seater BMW's apparently didn't didn't think it right that I should cut in front of them {maybe I shouldn't have}, but wtf happened to southern hospitality; iow did they need to try to crush my leg for some 1.2 sec pole position on hwy 92? (yeah same could be said for me i suppose, but you know what I'm saying eh) They were already stopped at light too type thing, wasn't like I was going to holding traffic up.....what ya think...
