Today was the big day. I rode the "Tail of the Dragon" for the first time. What a great ride. I'm up here in Tennessee staying with a friend, so we ventured out on the bikes today. We put 150 miles on each and did "Tail of the Dragon" late this afternoon.

The is one road that will hone your driving skills greatly. So much fun. If I lived here, I'd do it once a week, just for grins.

If your going to ride the Dragon I would also check out the Cherohala Skyway and the Hell-Bender 28, same area and great rides.

This one's definitely on my "bucket list" of 'must do' rides, but I'm not sure how enjoyable it would be on a 9ft. long K9! A 'white knuckle' ride all the way, I'll bet.:whoop::eek: Still, I want to do it..someday!:)

I've road the Dragon twice on my chopper and this year we did the other rides in the area, no problem, on the dragon you wont get over 30mph anyway.

Can't be worse than Needles highway in South Dakota. I've talked to buddies that have done both. Helping difference between the two is the Dragon has banked corners, so I'm told.

It was one of the best rides I've ever done. Some of the turns are banked. The ones that gave me the trouble are the decreasing radius turns that go on forever. You keep turning and turning and you can't see the end and it gets faster and faster....WOW, what a rush. Just keep leaning harder.

The turns seem to take you around in a circle. LOL.... and you can't see past the moving apex that just keeps moving. Kind of like driving in the 1960's..... LOL

It is a ride that is one of those "significant events" in your life that you'll never forget.

I plan to go back with the bike. I did visit this year in the car to check it out. What most concerns me are the road worriers. I can navigate at my own pace, but having someone crawl up my ass or cross over into me makes me nervous. On a week day this fall sounds like a good plan. The scenery is amazing and when the fall colors come out it is more so.

My exact concerns....heard alot of crotch rockets get pretty antsy....But can't worry about it I guess, I'll go at my pace. :D

Exactly right, we had crotch rockets come up on us, but wasnt a big problem they find a hole and shoot buy...one thing to watch for is the trucks...signs are posted for trucks to use an alternate route but there are dipshits that try it...they will block both lanes..just a heads up.

I am here in SC and been dying to try it since I moved here. For you guys that have done the ride and since I have to option of taking either the BD or the HD, what would you recommend?

Probably depends on what Big Dog you're riding as to which handles better. I ride a chopper for example....a Harley prob would do better, but a pitbull different story. Frankly I'm looking forward to kicking back and enjoying the ride....and I do that better with my feet out in front of me more than with my face in front. If you go to Killboy's website you will see lots of custom cruisers, BD's, AIH, WCC, you name it....a few in the parking lot I talked to.......so makes little difference except you will get more attention on the Dog.:D
