Tachometer only goes up 2 bars, but all lights flash when idling

Crazy, the ring must be good because all the LEDs flash when the bike is idling, but when I rev it up, the tach only goes up the first two "blue" bars. Any ideas?

If you have programmable Thunderhard ignition and it is not programed right your tach. might
show half of the actual revs.
Here is a quote from owners manual from the ignition module:

Tachometer Cal
With your ignition, some tachometers will read "double" or "half" of actual engine speed. Set this value to "1" or "0" to correct the reading of the tachometer.

So you might have revved your motor to 4000 RPM but the tach. ring only shoved half the revs.
As for the tach. lights all blinking at idle it is because you have your idle RPM set to low.
It should be set at about 950 to 1000 RPM.

Thanks, just got the bike so I am still learning about it. I think the ignition is stock but not really sure. I have not found the idle setting on the carb yet, will look today to see if i can set it higher. The tach lights don't move up or down at all with engine RPMs

Sounds to me as though the Tach is not seeing RPM at all. Thus no response with revs as well as blinking because its not registering 1000 rpm minimum at idle???

Ignition module runs the tach....take a pic of it and we can tell you if it's stock.

If someone bastardized it may not be hooked up correctly

I will get at it today and take a pic. I am pretty sure it is all stock, the ECM is stock. I may be slightly incorrect on the lights, it looks like it goes from one "bar" to two "bars" but no higher. I have had some corrosion issues with the bike so it may be a poor wiring connection somewhere, but not sure where to start looking.
