So, I started my 04 Ridgeback to leave work last night and I noticed while she was warming up that the tach lights were dimming and then coming back to bright sporadically. Bike was running good, so I decided to ease on home. I stopped once on the way home to turn the bike off and back on again (local bike shop parking lot just in case). Same thing was still happening. I got to within about a mile of home and decided to drop the hammer on the 107 to see how it would run out. As soon as I saw yellow on the tach the whole speedo went out and the needle pegged. I still had the neutral light, turn signal indicators and high/low beam indicator, but no tach, odometer, or speedo. I eventually got tach lights back, but they were nowhere near accurate. I was pretty sure I knew right where to go as I'd seen a zip tie around some electrical components when I bought the bike and had read a thing or two on here about using them. I popped the seat off, pushed down on the first block I could put my fingers on and the speedo lit right back up! So, a couple of different things crossed my mind shortly thereafter... Relief. S**ts working again and I made it home on the bike, not walking beside it.... Dread. I have something else to fix on my upcoming maintenance day... Excitement! I have an upcoming maintenance day where I get to take this beautiful bike apart, comb the forum for how-to threads, and then put her all back together better than before! Still loving this bike even with a quirk or two. So, if you see some funny business happening with your speedo, it could be a sure sign that a connection is loose. And knowing that might keep you on your dog and you both on the road. Oh! One more thing.. Check back in on some of your old fixes every now and then - might need a new zip tie or something somewhere. :2thumbs:
