Tach light question

Energy One

I bought my '09 K9 new last May and currently have about 4000 miles on it.

Coming home at the end of a nice ride last evening, just as it was starting to get dark, I noticed my tach lights were not "flashing" but were dimming in and out - never completely going out, but definitely going low to bright and back every few seconds. This was mainly as more lights came on at higher RPMs (like around 3000 and above), not at idle or lower RPMs.
I don't ride that much at night and never noticed this before, so maybe it's always done that??

BUT, I'm concerned and wonder if anyone has experienced this before on their bike? I just don't want this to be a "prelude" of something bad about to happen and get stranded 100 miles from home (or from dealer).

I hooked up my battery tender this morning and it went right to 'green', so I don't think it's the battery. Other than that, the bike runs great!

Thanks for all feedback!

Maybe or maybe not your problem but. If the engine rpms drop below 950 the tach lights will flash. This is down to insure that you are maintaining the correct oil pressure. If the engine gets below 950 rpms the tach lights can will flash.

Also check with a meter what voltage you are getting back to the bat at idle.

Thanks. My idle was steady at 1,000 and the couple tach lights that were on were bright and unwavering. It was just when several of them were on (around 3,000 rpm or above) that they started dimming in & out every few seconds. Very strange! :loony:

RIDE IT HARD!!!
your tach lights dim and get brighter with the change of light. if you look at your tach, you will see a small light sensor on the left side...a small dot...as the sun or bright light hits it, the tach lights get brighter and as it gets dark the lights dim so they don't look too bright at night.

:iagree:
Had the same thing happening on my 06 K9 since the first day I rode it. No more though, I installed the DD and it is sweettttt.

Hmm..I didn't know that! Well, I guess that would explain it...it was at dusk, just starting to get dark, so that makes sense. Duhh!
Sorry for hitting the "panic" button on this, but..ya' never know....better to be safe than sorry..right?
Thanks for thed help!
