Super Fine Scratches in Billet ?

Is there a product that will remove those super fine scratch marks in Billet ? I ask that question because I notice those super fine marks up around the tree on the forks and a couple of other places. I don't mind putting the elbow grease into it but I already have a small fortune tied up in all the different polishes I already. I would really like to attempt to get that brand new shine back into the ole scooter. So I thought I would ask the experts in the shine er' up department.

Ray, Have been a tool and die/ mold maker for 30+ years and have a lot of experience in polishing steel and aluminum. We actually polish aluminum up to a mirror finish, but it is a process. We machine the area, then start reducing the scratch level by polishing with different sandpaper grades, starting with 120,180,240,320,etc up to 900, 1000 grit paper. Even at this point the surface is still dull, some polishes will buff some, but to get a true shine we use a diamond compound for final buffing processes. I've tried several items also, as you have, but nothing brings it back to a shine without scratches that I have found. And the above is just not worth it to me, and I am a perfectionist.

I was thinking about trying what they polish eye glasses down with but the diamond polish sounds like something I will try out. I was in fabrication for most of my life until they closed the plant down in 2008. I got my ole scooter after it had been left out in the weather for a few months and polished the crap out of it for the entire winter. It is not show room shiney but much better that it was when I got it. I do have the patience to polish and buff to an even better shine tiny areas at a time.

I use a product for lazy people called Chrome. Works great and looks great all the time

I have done about a third of the areas and this stuff works great. After I do all the polishing I would usually do, I rub some wenol in and wipe it off and it looks about as good as I can ask For. Thank you,,I had forgotten how hard that concrete is on my butt too,,

Use Wizard alum polish , it looks like cotton candy. Pinch off a peace and start buffing.

We use "white diamond polish". about 15 bucks a bottle and now, Dennis kirk sells it. I also read on here about the polish that lowes sells to clean the aluminum too boxes. I picked up a bottle of it and it works pretty good.

I saw the white diamond polish at Advanced Auto the other afternoon and it was about $15.

I am fixing to spend a few hours on mine ole scooter after I got soaked the other day from one of these pop up thunderstorms. Ah,,, and it was clean! What I did remember and I was greatful for the rain, that all this polishing/waxing/wiping we do on these scooters makes them a pretty easy clean up after an unscheduled wet down from the clouds, or maybe it was scheduled and I missed the memo , . I am kinda anxiouus to try out my new polishing chair/seat I put together from stuff I already had to keep my butt off the concrete floor completely. While I was wipping the rain off the scooter, I had already blowed most of it off with the air hose, and got dry clothes on myself. I wanted to wipe the lower billet and chrome off but knew my wife would tear into me if I got the dry shorts I put on dirty sitting on the floor so I took a piece of 3/4" oak plywwod about 18" square and sit on it. Then I starting multi-tasking (thinking and wiping at the same time). I see the old boat seat on a shelf in the garage I recently replaced in my boat
(nothing fancy). Then I told self "What if I put some casters (wheels) short as possible on this piece of plywwod and attached the boat seat to it as well!" So I went to harbor frieght and got four very small wheels for about $7. The seat is about 3 and half inches off the floor.I can get down to all those lower extremitys of the ole scooter now without having to get up and down as I finish up one spot and more comfortable too, just roll around! I would be easy to add a cup holder for thoses that think they need a beer in one hand and a polishing rag in the other.

As mentioned a lot of the finer scratches depends on the type of cloth you use, I use the super soft micro fiber from auto zone, eye glass clothes would work great also but as many as you need they're cost prohibitive. I've had great success with Mother's Billet and clothes from autozone. With that said, it's still a process..... during final buffing the pressure is very light and when you think you're finished, one more time with a clean clothes wouldn't hurt.

I use 1500 sand paper and then Mequiars makes a #1 fine cut with a buffer works great for me.
