When you go to Sturgis, try to hook up with riders who have been there and know their way around. (Both around Sturgis for the night life and around the Hills and other great areas to ride).

Also I would say to stay in or close to Sturgis if you want to have FUN at night after the great rides during the day. If you have had a few , you won't have far to ride to your bunk!):D

And go on the Deadwood to Rushmore BDB ride!!!

Here are a couple of threads of mine from 2008 (just one of five years I have been):

Here is one more IMPORTANT ITEM THE WEATHER!!!!! I have been there when the weather goes from 98* one day to 60* the next. Last yr my wife wanted to go to the Naked Winery and buy 4 cases of wine to bring back. So we took the Yukon down from Spearfish to Hill City. This was the temp when the front hit and it started raining. Bring rain gear, clothes for 100* days and be prepaired for the temp to plumit!!!!! It snowed on us on evening in 2003 going from Sturgis to Deadwood, and in 2002 in Hewlett WY where Devels Tower is my HD LowRider almost overheated. Be prepaired!!!!

You never can be over prepared out there. When the hail storm hit Sturgis and possibly Deadwood 2 (?) years ago we were on the porch at the house we rent outside Hill City near Lake Pactola watching the clouds roll in, we got sprinkled on.

That storm destroyed millions of dollars in Buildings, RV's bike's, car's and trucks. Some of the vehicles looked like they went through a war zone. Softball size hail and anything is a bad combanation. Watched a guy cry he had just purchased a 1/2 million dollar Prevo motor coach. and after the storm if it was not totaled I'll eat my front tire! Couple of deaths accured also due to the hail.
