I was trying to find the answer to another question when I downloaded the owners manual off BD's site. When I did this I found a section on the gas tanks. From what I gather they sound like you should fill both tanks???? I thought that's what the crossover was for. Are any Pitbull owners actually filling both sides?? I've never owned a harley either so my experience with dual bobs is limited.

I sound like a complete noob, but believe it or not this isn't even close to my first bike. Just my first Big Dog.

dual tank

i know that on the newer HD's with dual tanks they actually got rid if the filler cap on the left side tank. thats where they put the fuel guage. i have a 1975 superglide with dual tanks and i usually sit in the bike (holding it level) and use the filler closest to the pump. you can use either side that is what the crossover is for. I've even seen guys fill the left side (bike leaning on kickstand) put the cap on and then use the right side to top their tank off. But that always seemed like too much work for me because either way the fuel will level out between the two tanks by way of the crossover.

You should fill both tanks when you fill up. Left side first then right. The cross over tube will not allow gas to the other tank as fast as the pump is filling. I f you don't fill both tanks you will never get a full fill of fuel.

If you have any doubt just try for your self...........

Just make sure to avoid topping off the left tank if you're not going to ride too far because if the gas cap leaks when you lean the bike over on the kickstand it could ruin your paint.
