strange metallic sound

Yesterday I went for a ride, I stopped to a red light and when it turn green in first gear I turn left and while I was turning I heard a loud metallic sound as somebody hit the bike with a hammer and scare the seat out of me. At first I thought my kick stand was still down but I was riding for 15-20 min. already so it wasn't the case. Later that day I took my wife for a short ride and happen the same thing (she got scare this time too :roll, the only different this time I was turning right and I think I was also in first gear maybe second not sure. Anyway beside the strong loud metallic sound the bike worked fine and everything seems good. I just don't know what that could be. Something wrong with the transmission, primary not idea at all, as I said the bike did fine. Anybody experience something like that or have any clue of what could be?

possible the Neck bearing is going bad.
Put the scoot up on a stand and go over that puppy checking everything.

I guess I have to do that, I don't have much experience as a mechanic and english is my second language (I'm from Italy) and I'm not familiar with most of the technical terminology yet but willing to learn and with the forum help I should be fine. Still open for more suggestions.

Ever find out what this noise was. I thinking maybe either neck bearings, front wheel beraings or front sprocket in the primary. Not sure have the same noise. Im stumped. Only does it once in a while. And only when coming to a stop. Any one have any other ideas.

I had that similar sound one more time when I hit with the bottom of the frame a bump on the road so I wonder if I did hit something the other two time too. Since then I put at least 1k miles and the bike run strong so hopefully nothing is wrong with it.

That is what I thought too, my bike had the same sound just about every time I turned. It was the left rear wheel bearing. The reason it quick screaming at me was because it was all gone, just a few balls on the bottom part of the bearing. It got so hot that it welded itself to the axle, I had to cut the axle to take the wheel off and that was a lot of fun.

Check you wheel bearings :2thumbs:

I just experienced a weird noise coming from the primary this weekend in Daytona. I took it to Carls and had things checked there and nothing was found???

It comes and goes and all seems to run okay

I'm going to have the mechanic here in Naples check it this week after calls are made to baker and S&S for some direction

My bike has 5k miles on it and just had a 585 cam installed and I do know they had to readjust the clutch also because the starter had a bad connector on it and had to be repaired

Ill let you know what the deal is and maybe it will help you with this issue

what Carlos said, check your wheel bearings!!
Lost a rear left side once. Had a bigger diameter
spacer made same size as seal on bearing.
Keeps my balls in place

I'd put er up on a jack stand and rotate the wheels to see if you get any weird sounds like before. Turn the handel bars too. Then I'd put it gear and repeat the process after removing the plugs and see if that reproduces the sound.
