Stranded today

Hey guys,,, i need some help.
If my battery runs low (out of juice),,, while i'm riding my Dog.... will the EHC shut the bike down??

here's what happened.
I went for a ride today,,, i'd gone about 20 mile or so,, (approx 4 miles from home),, when the bike just died.... coasted to a stop. Tried to crank it over... nothing,, not even a click, grunt or moan.
I removed the seat. turned on the key,,, with or without,, the RUN button enabled,,, my EHC was giving me a yellow light (not red like normal, on RUN position) blinkers would not flash,, the horn would not honk,, and the starter would not even make a noise.
I pushed the bike home,, (1 1/2hr later),, put the charger on the battery at 10amp... turned the key on, Run button in OFF position, no LEDs on the EHC. I enabled the RUN button, EHC shows a RED LED,, and the starter would click,, click.
After 30 minutes on charge,,, now the bike will start again,, everything seems to work.
What do you think?

tired and outa' shape :bang:

EHC is my guess. I am on my third EHC since I bought my bike in August. I was having similar issues. Very, very similar issues. Hook up with Jake (bmridgeback) and do the wireplus/EHC elimination mod. Unless you have warranty left, make dealer fix.

Sounds like you better start out making sure the bike is charging. You might of been running on just the battery.

dave...how old is your battery? and what kind of battery are you running?

I was thinking the same Ray...
Dave, Ray.. that is my suspect also. It's the stock battery,, been on a tender all of the time when not being ridden. I had taken it to AutoZone,, and asked them to load test it, about 3 days ago. (the test told me, that the battery is good)
I've been shopping for a new battery, and been researching what will fit,, and trying to get a good price. Now this just popped up,, which is making me think,, i need a new battery.. but, the EHC is always in the back of my mind.

Dave....
I had the Interstate 310 cca battery in mine.....and it was only in for a year and it started to click a couple of times(hazards came on) when I started the bike up after it was 36 degrees's overnite...my bike is always on the tender when not riding.....so after spending $63 on the Interstate.....I talked to Alhall about the Braille battery and went ahead and spent $162 (shipped) on the Braille battery.....the other night it dropped down to almost below freezing....next day bike fires right up without any hesitation!:whoop: :2thumbs:
well worth the cheese...IMHO

thanks DAVE... i've been looking at the Braille B2015 or the B2317R both will fit, both have the correct terminal configuration.
The B2015 weighs 15lbs,, the B2317R = 17lbs Do you know what the stock battery weighs?

i'm gonna spend the chedder on a top notch battery... after pushing my bike 4 miles today,,, i need a good healthy power source.

Yeah,,, that's the one i'm looking at......
Jake said he has had great luck with Big Boar 310cca i haven't found any locally.

A new battery has gotta' happen before the next ride...... then,,, i'll be able to tell if i'm charging correctly.

What Voltage should my Dog put out? What does yours read while it's running?

I'm not sure how much the stockie weighs...
here is were I bought my battery from....:2thumbs:
Braille B2015 Carbon Fiber / Non-Carbon Fiber All Season Battery
a pic of the Braille battery next to my old Interstate battery....

Happened to me once. Circuit breaker had tripped & bike ran the battery down. My tach, flashers & then speedo went down before the bike died.

check under the electrical/ batteries sub forum....there are some threads on the readings....

Alhall had the Big Boar for 2 1/2 years...he said the it cranked over the motor real good ...the only problem he had was the terminals started cracking after 2 1/2 years.....

While I agree that your battery was dead if you just had it load tested and it was good it doesn't sound like your battery is the culprit! Don't waste money buying a new battery until you check out the charging system!

The best battery in the world won't help you if any one of the pieces of your charging system is broken and you can rule any of them in or out with a meter and a little time. Don't you want to put your cheese where it'll do the most good? :D

And if it'll make you feel any better the EHC has nothing to do with the state of charge of your battery. :)

Hey Dennis,
do you happen to know what Voltage should my Dog be putting out, while running? What voltage does yours put out? Do you know what the factory says the voltage reading should be?
I'm curious if the EHC will shut the bike down, if the battery runs low or out of juice? I wanted to know,, what that low voltage amount is?
cheers,,

Hey I offered you a ride. You need 13.5-14 volts at 2k. Check your circuit breaker to see if it's tripped. You didn't jump it did you? Definitely sounds like a battery issue to me budro. It's 5 years old. Go down and buy a harley agm battery for 100 bones and be done. Of course check the charging system. Bring it over if needed.

LOL...MAn I am just looking for a reason to ditch EHCs. Could be the battery, or charging system, but the whole "EHC in the back of your mind" thing, that doesnt go away...ever. Everytime my bike screws up, I immediately think "EHC?"
