...Still Sputtering

Energy One

I posted this a week or so ago about my chopper losing power during ride, bogging down, no power in 4th/5th gear, popping very loudly, etc.. The bike will then eventually catch and act normal. Seems like alot of strain on the bike.

I'm posting for some additional advice before I take it into the shop and pay an arm and a leg. Do you really think I should take apart the carb? If so, what should I look for?

THANKS!~

What have you done from the recommendations on the other thread? Following up with the same thread allows members to follow the history. Starting new threads isn't always the best thing although you did provide a link to the old thread.
I don't think a new thread will get anymore attention than the last one as new post in any thread move to the top of the list.

Anyway, what checks have you don't so far if any?

if you do the carb, pull the bowl, clean the bowl, pull the jets and clean with compressed air.

I took the carb apart so far. Lifted the gasket and it seemed very clean inside. I used a needle in the jets in case they were clogged. I started it up and took it for a ride. The carb shutter doesn't seem to close shut as quick as it should. It will backfire a bit as well while on the throttle in higher rpm's.

As for the fuel filter...it's a small glass tube under the seat with a tube screen in it. Was there when I bought the bike. Don't think that has anything to do with it, since it is a very speratic problem (as described in the thread.)

i had the issue that while riding the bike would start boggin like it was gettin ready to shut down,my speedometer would go back to zero and then a buncha popping and the bike would shut down,i could literally then hit the run button and hit start and it would fire right back up while still drifting from the stall and go again for awhile,,it wound up being my ignition module and the board before my EHC got corrosion in it and one of the pins had actually rusted away, there was no dilectrical grease in any fittings under the seat

just for shits and giggles, pull the inline filter and replace it with a connector. might not make a difference but it could be a cheap and easy fix. also not bad idea to check the strainer in the petcock.

Knob could be the solution ...

I know this has been mentioned before but make sure your enrichner is all the way down. Did you add an aftermarket knob? I did and it was lifting it up just a little bit and made the dog run like crap ... black plugs in 4 miles ... took it off and made sure that it wasn't interfering with the enrichner and the problem went away ... it's just a little thing but it made a big difference on how the dog ran .... and now it runs really good. Hope you find the bug that's keeping the dog down. :D  :flag:

dont think its a dog.think its a custom.this is the same guy that was shorting his coil when he mounted it on the bike.i think it is anyway
