I am pretty sure my starter has gone South and I was wondering if anyone knows who is rebuilding these OEM starters. Also was wondering if anyone has a Spyke on there 05 chopper and if they have any issues?

My jackshaft broke recently. BDM sells thier starters for around $400, with jackshaft. Ive already had 9 starters. My tenth will be a Spyke, also around $400. Completely rebuildable, including the jackshaft. Once installed, I'll post my feelings about my desicion. But I've heard wonderful stories about these starters and the company, so I expect no problems.

Spyke

I called Spyke today and they said they don't make a starter to fit the Baker DSSC but Tech Cycle Performance does, it looks like good stuff..

I also broke my shaft about a yr. ago, spike would'nt rebuild it becouse its a big dog, big dog jacked me around trying to get $400 outa me, so my buddy swapped his spike head for my BD and they rebuilt it for around $150-$200 works great.

Guys, I can get the Baker Fire Starter and I talked to Tech Cycle 2 weeks ago about getting set up with them.

If I can help you all out, let me know and I will see what kinda of pricing I can get worked out for you.

A friend has a Spyke on his 107 and has had no problems since the install. He had all kinds of problems before buying a Spyke.

I just installed the S&S compression releases and what a difference, I really think this is the answer to all the starter problems...

My 9 starters were based on a poorly milled inner primary case, causing the jackshaft to move slightly. Plus, the crap starters they pushed on us for a few years (inner seal leaks). So here I am...#10. Thanks for asking though.

Tech

I called Tech Cycle Performance, they said the 1.4kw would be perfect as long as you you have compression release, it's $495. They do have a 2kw but he talked me out of it, it was $595.

As soon as I read that Baker carried starters for the Dogs, I sent an email inquiring. This is the reply I received.
Pete,

The information on the thread is incorrect. We do not offer a starter to fit the 2005+ Big Dog Motorcycles.
