when the bike is hot does anyone else have a problem when starting the bike which appears to be the starter not engaging with the ring gear properly? Only happens when the bike is hot / warm, after a gas stop or something. Never does it when starting cold. Any ideas?

When the bike gets hot everything changes shape a bit. Double check everything is tight? You say it's an engagement issue, is it banging or grinding?

Happens every once in a while with my primo belt drive for past three or so years. Happened more frequently when my battery was older. Never does it hot always cold.

New battery cured it somewhat but it still happens sometimes. I just let off the start button, press it again and it engages. Not getting worse and jackshaft pinion and ring gear looks good so I just accept it.

If you figure it out let me know.

Had a similar problem after I went to the open primary...seemed random problems with engaging the ring gear. Pulled the starter and cleaned all the surfaces and mounted it with new hardware -- and torqued it proper. No problems since then..suspect a sbtle alignment issue. Good Luck!

I had the same problem with my K-9. I started shutting off the fuel when I stop for gas, possible fuel leaking into the cylinder's and causing it to kick back. Doesn't seem to do that anymore, worth a try if your not already doing it. Good luck

Mine will do it every once in a while when hot. Hit the starter button and it will sound like you hit with a hammer. Let off and try it again not problem.:job:

Mine does it also but only when hot. About one in ten starts. Good suggestions to try

I wish I had more money.
I just fixed my issue. I had intermitten issues for over a year. Turned out the green wire at the starter was loose. I squeezed down the connector to tighten the contact and fixed all together. No shit. That easy.
