Starter Wire insulation cracked

I was doing some standard maintenance and looked in behind the belt and saw bare copper wire at the starter. The wire shield coming from the solenoid in to the starter was split wide open. I assume that would cause a short if I had got caught in the rain. Just wanted to share what I found in case it would be of any help to someone else.

It's pretty common. I taped mine up, I heard of several using plastic dip brushed on.:2thumbs:

It helps keep any water from getting into the starter and into the cable strands that could cause any corrosion.
