So today I went to get gas, and when i went to start the bike back up nothing... The electric was there but no mechanical turnover. I think the starter is shot. I guess its all the compression on the motor?? I mean Ive only had it about a week (used) but ive never cranked on it. You can tell when its goin to fire or not. I called Southern Ohio V Twin and I guess im taking it to them one day this week. I did finally get it jump started in a big parking lot, i just looked like an idiot b/c all these people are looking and admiring the bike and it WONT START!! O well...

Any suggestions or comments to make me at least feel better?? lol V twin said somthing about installing a pressure relief but thats a lotta $$. How much you think this might cost to fix? Ive heard thats a big prob w/ these bikes.

Have you checked the battery? Should show 12.8 volts and holding.

Did the Husky's have compression releases?

shovelheadkicker on ebay might have some starters. Otherwise, of coarse Vickie could get you one for 10% off + free S&H & no sales tax. I don't think its a hard job according to some of the guys like Sul.

A few thoughts since you've only had it a week and it's previously owned...

Did you fully charge the battery when you got it?

Do you know how old the battery is (orig equip)?

How much have you ridden it?

Lots of short trips or nice long ones?

The battery would be the first thing to check. Put it on a trickle charger over night, if you haven't already tried that, and see if that fixes the problem. If it won't take a full charge or if it discharges really fast after a full charge then look at a new one before you buy a starter.

If you've already done all the above then pretend I didn't type this

I dont think its the battery. Like i said, it whines when i try to start it, has a sound like a stripped gear...ZZZZZZZZZZZZ Ill be more than happy to try a charger in the morning though, you guys know more than me and thats why i asked!
I rode it home after jump starting it, wouldnt that have charge it enough to get it to turn over if it indeed was the battery?
No real long trips, 5-15 mile trips topps so far. 02 husky does not have a compression relief, mech just suggested it as a long term fix if i planned on keeping the bike. He also said starters go anywhere from a couple hundred to like 800$ depending on what you wanted. I guess ill take it out there anyway to have him look it over anyway.

Sorry to hear about the starter prob. Don't let it discourage you. As much as it sucks the guys here are pretty good with figuring out the problems and will point you in the right direction.

What I don't get is that he said it started when he jumped it.... unless it was a gear issue and its just the luck of the draw.

When i said jump, i meant i ran with it, jumped on, popped the clutch in second and it fired. I wasnt talking about jumping w/ cables, sorry for the confusion. I didnt even think about that until i was laying in bed last night. Does that make any more sense??

Sorry sulconst2, im a FF/Medic and Ive been at work for the past 48 hours or I would have...trust me. I really appreciate everyones help.

I understand Sul... but I guess he meant push started it... so I think you're right... chewed up gear... pull the out primary.

HHH, you can probably do the compression release yourself if you are mechanically inclined. You need to take the rocker boxes off and attach a couple of wires, not too hard. You should have done the starter yourself. 2 bolts and the starter would have came out. You could have gotten those grips that you wanted.

Hey HHH, you have company. Maybe you can hook up with Nam and he can show you a thing or two about wrenching. Nam seems to be pretty capable of turning a wrench.
