Starter test

I'm having trouble with my Chopper with what appears to be electrical issues (go figure, a BigDog with electrical issues). I bought my bike brand new in the Summer of 2004 and for the first 12-16 months I had nothing but Hell (which sounds like from reading threads, insn't uncommon). I had the ECH changed (while still under factory warranty) and that corrceted a lot of issues for a while. It wasn't until I changed the ECH myself with the upgraded computer that she actually ran better than she ever did before. I rode it for several years with the normal maintenance needs until recently. I try to start the bike and the compression releases engage, release and then nothing else. I ran all the traps, checking voltage to the appropriate wires and I got to he starter. I've taken it off and thinking I could test it by supplying a charger to the possitive and negative lugs on the starter to see if it would engage. When I did, nothing. With the starter on a work bench, shouldn't this engage the starter as it would a car or am I missing something? ( During the multiple replacement of parts during the warranty period, the starter was replaced with a higher
torque starter, so ths is not the original starter than came with my bike. Thanks in advance for the input.

If I understood the video correctly, it looks like applying the elextric supply to the lugs it should activated the starter's cylinoid switch. I could always tell from the video but is that what you took from the video?

Sounds like i need to tear into my starter and clean the intrnal contacts. I believe that is the next logical directon to go with my starter appearing to play "possum"

Make sure it has the correct gear on it, correct gear is on the left. Some have been rebuilt with the wrong gear.
