starter? relife valve?

Outlawcrewcab,

Have you had the bike since new? If so, then start with the basics, what has changed? If not, can you contact the original owner of the bike? If so, ask the previous owner if they made any changes that would have any effect on your problem. Has this problem always been there?

I have seen batteries that have a good surface charge but lack amperage capacity. The battery will charge, hold a charge but very little oomph when you need it. Once parts get a little dirty, there is even less oomph due to the fact that the supplied voltage needs to travel through more shit to get to where it has to go. That could be the reason why your bike was starting fine after the starter was gone through. I would start looking at connections. Loose terminals, bad ground, etc... Try to isolate your problem before you start pulling your bike apart. Next time you have this problem, try running a jumper wire from the positive side of the battery, directly to the relay terminal on your starter. Just be sure your bike is in neutral before you do this. If the battery is good, and the starter is good, the motor should turn over. If that is the case, then your problem is relay, start switch, or a bad connection somewhere.

Hope this helps.

I had the same type of prob.would crank than it wouldn't crank, after fearing all the worst,I went to change the battery only to find that the ground wire going to the bike was a tad loose, also at the neg terminal was not as tight as it should have been, old battery was shot anyway,so new batt, locktite and all has been good this season
