I have a 03 chopper I was having start problems traced
it to a basd selnoid which i rebuilt I also installed a plunger start button
got it all back together..when i turn the key the speedo jumps and all
lights work it will start with the plunger but not the start switch
so I traced it to what I thought was a bad relay module which i ordered
took 8 weeks to get... just got done installing it...key on.. speedo junps all lights work when I press start head light goes out and the red light in relay
goes on....nothing but a click...bike starts with plunger ..runs great
ever thing works fine once running....thinking of doing the wireplus thing
just was hoping it was something more simple....any help would be great

Check the voltage at the green trigger wire at the starter. You should have 12v. Make sure your ground is tight at the batt. and the other end. Usually the other end is at the starter mounting bolt.

The headlight may go out when you hit the starter button. designed that way. does it come back on when you let off the button?

Had the same problem with my bike, 06 ridgeback with 117 S&S. Ended up that I had to replace the battery because the old one had a dead cell! Was told the make sure all the power in the ECI(think thats what its called, box in front of battery with the red light) was gone. Put new battery in and everything works perfect now.. I couldnt even jump start it.. crazy but had to reset that ECI.. Hope that fixes ur problem if not that may need to be replaced. If the starter works with the plunger its not the starter

It could be the solenoid.

All battery connections clean and tight.

Is the click...click a relay or the starter solenoid kicking in?

Are you getting 12 volts at the solenoid when the handlebar starter button is held down to start?

Take a 12 gauge jumper wire and try to jump from the battery (+) terminal to the solenoid wire connector (with the original solenoid wire disconnected). See if the solenoid kicks in and the starter engages (TRANS in neutral) and the engine spins over. This will bypas all other electronics, switches, relays etc..

If this works, it will verify good solenoid windings, contacts and internal mechanism.

If not, it could be a funked solenoid.

You can go from there....

Good hunting.

i have the same issue with my 03 chopper, and i also have the plunger starter button. i dont think it is a battery issue because i rode most of last summer without ever getting stranded and i didnt ever use a battery tender. when i push the start but nothing happens, no click, no noises at all. i have power to the starter when i push the start button but nothing happens. i have been told there is a wire inside the starter that can break due to vibrations. i still need to pull my starter before summer to check things out.
