Gents,

I recently put my bike back together. Decked the cylinders, .600 cam, put new V&H exhaust, and added the S&S dual runner.

I followed the manual when putting it back together, and followed the torque specs to the letter.

After getting back back together, it started right up (which made me VERY happy). I did some slight adjustment to the carb today, then took it out for a ride. This was the first time since back together that it has been out of 2nd gear (prior, I had just taken it around the block). Good news, in 3rd gear, when I twist the throttle...wow, HUGE improvement. Bad news, I noticed shit spraying everywhere...even had it on the front forks :angry:

Soooo...now I have to try and figure out where/why I have an oil leak. I sprayed it down with water, dried it off, and started it again. I put my face all over that bike, somehow avoiding a new scar while my face was next to the hot exhaust. I had it in nutral, but couldn't recreate the leak...although I saw a little oil (head gasket area...but I know I torqued that correctly ???).

Bottom line, I'm not exactly sure where it is coming from. Only other info: when I changed the cam, I didn't put the cover back on for a couple days...noticed that I lost some oil. I put a bunch (at least 1/2 quart) thru the tappets.

Is it possible that I put too much oil back in, and this is causing a leak? Could increased compression, combined with new dual runner, somehow create this?

F-me. Soooo much time and $$$ in this. The thought of taking this shit apart again to change a head gasket that might not be the problem makes me want to go jump off a bridge....

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Again, it seems like the only way I can recreate the leak is to ride it...but it's very hard to pin point where it is coming from. By the way, could be my imagination, but I thought it smelled like gas and oil??

Just a thought, the check valve from the head to the air filter isn't on backwards is it? wouldn't explain the forks though?

Okay, something I can relate to :lol: I had the same thing happen to me when I changed out the cam (Cams) on my 2010 fat boy. At idle everything was cool, once I got on the road would spray oil on me and all over the bike. Not having taken the top end apart, and the cam cover was not leaking I figured it had to be the "O" rings in the lifter push rod covers. The front cylinder top "O" ring slipped up the hole into the head and leaked oil. Then the rear cylinder the bottom "O" ring slipped into the lifter block and every time the lifter came up under higher RPM's it would squirt oil. So I took the lifter rod covers off re-installed them making dam sure the fucking "O" rings stayed where they were supposed to be and that took care of my oil leak problem. May not be what your problem is but certainly worth taking a look.

Thanks Carlos...that was it. I must have ripped the top "O" ring on the first push rod. Pulled it off this morning after reading your post...sure enough, that was the problem.

Hopefully it will be up and running in next couple of days.
