I don't know what caused it, like mine when it died I did not try to fix it, its electronic and its a sealed unit, you will damage it when you try and pull it apart. The chrome bezel on the front is crimped on the housing. It was easier to replace it and the Dakota ran me about $217 and it was plug n play for my Dog. I got mine on E-bayWhat's the price on one of these?, what was the cause of mine going wrong?

I have red, no washing out in the sunlight.Blue or red, some say the red washes out in direct sun light, I have blue. Maybe someone will chime in that has a red one
Does the sun ever shine over the boarder?I have red, no washing out in the sunlight.
The cause is that it is a mechanical device, with tender moving parts. There is a thread somewhere that talked about how much vibration these bikes make. If I remember correctly, there is 50 G's of vibration at the head light and battery box. What's the price on one of these?, what was the cause of mine going wrong?

I can't read my red one with the sun behind me
Hmm...we can't agree on anything round hereI have red, no washing out in the sunlight.
Believe Matt Moore chimed in and said that's why they ditched them Coleman wanted them analog but they couldn't hold up and the later models got that digital one. Now they just use Dakota's on the new bikes. The cause is that it is a mechanical device, with tender moving parts. There is a thread somewhere that talked about how much vibration these bikes make. If I remember correctly, there is 50 G's of vibration at the head light and battery box.
Haha I believe you Paul. I dont believe Chuck...I'm not disagreeing with Chucky, I'm just telling you that I can't see mine when the sun is behind me I can't read the speed on my red one. Chucky may have better vision than me. The view in full sunshine is very similar to the view you get when doing a video of the digital tach.
You are correct Shannon. There is also a video on bigdogisback.com where Matt is talking about the battery box and such hitting up to 50 G's of vibration. The cause is that it is a mechanical device, with tender moving parts. There is a thread somewhere that talked about how much vibration these bikes make. If I remember correctly, there is 50 G's of vibration at the head light and battery box.
Do you wear polarized lens in your sunglasses? I have noticed my polarized sunglasses make it a little more difficult to read a digital gauge on some bikes in direct sunlight.I'm not disagreeing with Chucky, I'm just telling you that I can't see mine when the sun is behind me I can't read the speed on my red one. Chucky may have better vision than me. The view in full sunshine is very similar to the view you get when doing a video of the digital tach.
Problem is I'm too close to WNY, not even rays of hope there..let alone sunshine..Does the sun ever shine over the boarder?![]()
Maybe if you had a push up seat you would get the height to see it..I can't read my red one with the sun behind me
This is why I got a blue one, there's no debating whether or not ya can see it, I didn't mean to feed ya to the wolf's PK. If ya want, I can change my mind and say I have a red one and I can't see it either.I'm not disagreeing with Chucky, I'm just telling you that I can't see mine when the sun is behind me I can't read the speed on my red one.
