Speaking of tires

I just changed over to metzler since all the talk of avons having issues.
My first impressions are that the avons that I replaced rode and handled a hell of a lot better, the rear actually feels like I'm getting read squirm at higher speeds.
While performing some stunt riding (observing the rear tire while driving down the road) I noticed quite a bit of run out on the rite itself.

I measured the rim with a caliper and then the tire itself... 200 thou plus of runout on the tire.

Time to check if it seated or is defective.

I've only put a couple hundred miles on my Metzler, so far I can't tell any difference. The ride and handling seem to be the same. But like I said only a couple hundred miles. I haven't ridden in the rain yet, but so far its been good.

I let out all the air and pushed it up and down the driveway a few times and reinflated, runs a lot better now.
Well see how it stacks up in the next few thousand Miles:)

Well I am offering myself up as a crash test dummy for the cobras. In 2000 miles I've carved my front tire into a "V". I'm over Metzeler ME880's after wearing them out on my RF and Warrior. Plus they don't make a 250. I dont like the look of the dunlaps. I use a lot of front brake trailing into turns rather deep, so fronts tell me more than rears. I'll put one on the front in the week to come, and report once I get a read. This whole cracking/separating thing is just weird. Isolated? Or will I get bit by a Cobra?

I've only seen the tread separating problem on the 300mm tires. That last 2 Cobras I purchased only lasted 2500 miles on the first one and 1200 miles on the second one before the tread started separating. I don't think the Metzler can do any worse. We'll see how it goes.

Well then I won't be much help. But I thought that at least one or two of those pics showing cracks in the sidewall were fronts. I'm hitting the sack now, but I'll re-look in the morning.

Steve,
My buddy(Postman) has had two of the Avon front tires split all the way around the
rim. They were properly inflated and ridden with a single rider. Here is a couple of
pics of the first ride on the NEW Avon Cobra last spring. Keep a eye on the side-wall
of the tires so that you don't become a crash dummy!

I'm with Alan on this. I got great milage and performance from Avon until recently. The last Avon Venom 300 lasted about 2000 miles, then the center of the tire began to wear like I was doing burnouts every day. The rubber was very soft and Avon won't stand behind something like that because they can't prove it wasn't from me riding too hard. I ride like most, but don't burn the tires. I went with Metzler and other than virtually no clearance between the tire and beltdrive, no issues so far. Rides good.
