Spark Plug Wire Coming Loose At Coil

Is there a way to prevent this? I was flying down the road today and all the sudden the Dog sounded like ass and then it died! So I coasted over to the side of the road and gave it a once over and noticed the spark plug wire was loose at the coil so I pushed it back on cranked it over and took off. Not 5 minutes later the Dog died again with some problem. I took the entire cable off and the metal connectors inside the cable looked fine and were not crimped out of shape or anything.

Should I just buy a new set of wires, or do you think I might need to grab a coil too? Thanks in advance for any advice and if it's an easy fix just let me know, and call me an idiot! :2thumbs:

I don't think you are alone on this. I believe someone else on here experienced the same thing. So being an idiot is out :lol:. I would crimp the connector a little to make it look oval instead of round and push it in till you feel it click as in it being all the way in. If you don't feel it snap or click (that's what she said, it's all the way in, but don't feel anything) lol::lol:. than in that case I would get a new set of wires. :D

I would have to say, that your plug wire had nothing to do with it.

The EHC is known to trip its internal breaker and the bike will just shut down going down the road. After you stop and look it over for a couple minutes, long enough for the breaker to reset, they start back up. They are known to usually do it a couple times in a row.

I am sure many will agree with me on this. I have seen some really loose plug wires on my buddies custom built bike he bought. They were so loose that they would just fall off going down the road. It wouldn't miss a beat until it actually fell off the coil.

It did not die instantly. I took off from a light and it sputtered on me, so I clutched it and it sounded like it was firing off of one cylinder and then it died. I did not have to hit engine run or anything weird. I just hit start and it turned over a couple times and started, but it still sounded like one cylinder was firing and it died when I hit the throttle. After I got pulled into a safe parking lot I pulled the wire off the rear cylinder spark plug and then clicked it back in. Then I pulled the wire of the front cylinder and the whole wire fell in to my hand. After clicking the wire back into the coil and back on the spark plug I fired it up and it sounded normal and ran fine until a few more miles down the road when it died again. I pulled over and looked behind the coil cover and the wire was sitting against the cylinder unplugged from the coil.

I hope it is not the EHC yet since the bike has 1,200 miles on it and has never been wet!
