To those member who have had their wire plus switch control module fry,has anyone come up with a reason this happens?

No. Based on the response from wire plus, I believe they have known issues. When I described the issue that I and Razorback25 have (brake lights) they were aware and told me to replace the control module. They did offer a modest discount because this will be my 3rd and its just over a year old. They were not even interested in reviewing my old one, because I believe they know.

Not a fan.

Jwooky, if your on your third one, may i ask without insulting you, why? I just put a WP system on my EFI Bulldog and if it goes bad ( hopefullt it won't) i will go elsewhere for another alternative.

Thanks for the response.I bought a wire-plus for my bike ,an 06 K9,from Jake in Jan.2011 and "put it on the shelf".Rode the bike that summer and got stranded twice.Once was bad battery so I got a Braille. The other time after getting new battery, I was riding ,stopped to eat, then bike would not start.I was close to home so I went home ,got tool box ,searched BDB,went back, took right side PCB board apart, and found what could best be described as a very small amount of metal grit in housing.Wipe clean, re-assembled and the bike started. The next time riding,I stopped back home ,shut bike off, ran in house, came back bike would not start.Checked right control housing, wires, connections, battery, etc. and decide F''' It must be that "EHC". Pushed it in garage and installed the wire-plus in December of 2011.Bike started, all functions worked, rode bike when weather and work permitted and it ran flawlessly.September 2012,after riding all day bike shuts down out of the blue at 50 mph.Won't start so tow it home.Next day try to start, cranks ,cranks ,smell gas, check, and no spark at plugs.Install plugs ,put on tender in heated garage, and bike sits for 6-7 months dew to work and weather.Read up on this great site and thinking bad ground, short ,coil, ignition, loose connection????Ready to fix.Battery 12/13 volts, pull plugs to check spark, turn key on,speedo sweeps,SMELL SMOKE, turn around,SEE LOTS A SMOKE,turn key off and listen to the Switch Control Module sizzle and drip "oil"/ hot grease?Unit is out of warranty and don't wan't to spend $250 and fry another if something other caused this. After reading of some faulty units might decide to put the $250 towards a total re-wire/hand control etc. BDB members might want to re-think the idea of "putting one on the shelf" dew to the 1 year warranty and a few "faulty units".Thanks for reading.Input,advice,expertise,solutions,comments,brain-storming welcome.Love my K9 and I'll get it running again one way or another.:flag:

Vibration is the Issue

To those member who have had their wire plus switch control module fry,has anyone come up with a reason this happens?
The switch contol module is also a relay. Vibration is the issue...what! you say...a Big Dog vibrates. Yes, particularly the battery case housing.

I mounted the two modules into a shoft bed of adhesive silicon, then held them in place with a tie wrap. Don't hard fasten the modules with bolts.

The silicon has dried into a sort of mattress, which soaks up the high frequency vibration of the case. I have 25,000 miles on my Wire Plus.

If BDM had used Wire Plus as a factory item rather than the EHC, I'm sure they still be in business...maybe.

Good idea. This is something I did not do.Makes sense and would probably help others ready to install.

Good question, no insult taken.

The first time it failed, they replaced under warranty.
The second time, they gave it to me at 1/2 price.

Also, once you install the WP the wiring is a mess.

So to change now would be a much greater expense and a tremendous amount of work.
