Sissy Bar - leave it on or take it off when solo?

For those of you with a sissy bar, when you're riding solo do you leave your bar on w/o the back seat, or are you constantly taking the bar off and on when you haul passegers? I don't mind the look with just the bar, but I kinda like the look w/o anything back there, but didn't know how the threads in the bar would hold up if you were taking it off and on all the time, especially when torqued to 40 ft-lbs like the directions say.

Great Question Rhino17, I'll be following this thread to see how folks are answering.
I Still dont have a bar but I want the 18" REALLY BAD!

I run the bar all the time. Keep a pack on it for small storage. I put the p pad in the pack when I know I'll need it.

I've tried all three sizes and I decided to only put mine on when I'm going on a trip. The size I put on is dependent on how much stuff I want to carry. I don't like the looks of a sissy bar with a solo seat and, like Mark said, prefer the clean lines of the bike without it.

rhino17 for that bike you have there I would absolutely leave the 18" sissy bar on. Goes perfectly on that bike, no luggage rack or backrest pad. Gives it a bad ass look. I have a mastiff with the whole set up and I keep it off of mine unless I am using it. Doesn't look as good with the prostreet model.

I have the 18 inch on my k9. Leave it on all the time. I like the old school feel it gives to the bike

Bingo! I agree!

My opinion if you got a chopper the 18" bar looks great sitting back there with no pad. I have mine on and never take it off. I remove the plate and pad. Prostreet models are better without.

Some people don't like the sissy bar at all. It's all about what you like the best.

Leave my 12" sissybar on all the time. Only put the pad on when I use the 2up seat for a passenger.

Don't really like the looks of my bar but I leave it on all the time. I drive 75 miles a day to work and need to strap on bag for change of clothes and leather.

Leave it on! Because I'm always wanting to hang something on it (since choppers don't have much of a way to carry stuff). Besides I fab'd mine so I like to show it off. But that being said, I do like the clean lines of no sissy bar!

This is America and we have the freedoms to be and do Whatever we Want (pretty much).:flag: So do what you like!

18" on all the time. no pad or plate. I sort of like it the way it looks. The posted pic was before I added it the first time.

My better half told me to get my 18 inch off 5 hours after I put it on. She says "Less is More" and she is the fashion expert in my family. So, I have a 12 inch and 18 inch that I only install to travel long distances and carry some items. When I reach my destination, the sissy bar comes off unless I need it on. My better half also rides her own bike so I don't have to deal with a passenger. I also leave my passenger pegs and bracket off for the same reason unless there is a good reason to install it. My baby doesn't mind wrapping her legs around my waist to ride to the bath house at a Rally or similar situation.:whoop:

She actually told me to sell my sissy bars on ebay when she first saw it on my bike! Of course, I don't listen well.:D
