Shutting off issues

i have a 2008 k9 chopper that I had to replace the motor last year. S&S no longer builds the 117 so I had a 111 installed. In 2011 I had the ECH replaced with a Wire Plus kit. I haven’t had a problem until the engine was replaced. Now the engine shuts off out of the blue. Hot, cold, after riding along time or just starting out. The tac lights up
The engine May back fire and start right back up or I may sit along the road for a while. I’ve replaced the engine shut off button on the handle bar. I’ve replaced the crank position sensor, over replace the starter relay and still have no luck. Anyone else have simular issues?

Check the key switch. Might be loosing input.

There was a post a few days ago where a license plate wire was grounding out on the frame. Triple check all your wires, make sure there are no frayed insulation or loose connectors. I know the WP kit had all kinds of splices so check all of them.

Yup. That was me. It may take some time, but like roadie said, go through all your wires. I had to go through mine 1 by 1. the two wires inside the license plate fram had rubbed through and when the plate would touch the bike frame, it would turn the bike off like hitting the switch on the bars. Sounds similar to my issue. Just have to find the spot.

Also check you ignition module. In the past several riders were having the same issues and it turned out to be the ignition module. The module was overheating and would shut down the bike. Once it cooled off it worked again for a few miles and shut off again. The test was to start the bike and apply heat directly to the module with a heat gun, if after a few minutes the bike shut off wait till it cooled off and start the bike and apply heat again if it went off than the module is faulty and should be replaced.

There’s no consistency with the shutting off. I’ve had the wiring gone over a coupe of times. I have noticed the key extremely hot when I remove it. But I may ride 200 miles without an issue and then the next ride I can’t go 5 miles without it stopping over and over. Sometimes it will back fire and start up on its own. Or I can turn the key off and it starts right back up. Other times it strands me for a while. When it happens going down the road the tac lights up completely before the bike shuts off. Other times it just goes dead. I’ve noticed the high beam indicator light flicker when I turn the key on and off trying to get it to start sometimes also.

Have you looked at your headlight plug? The OG ones were prone to melting down. I know mine did. Replaced with a ceramic one from WSW. jmo...

I was lucky, caught it early. But when it melts, the wires become exposed. You turn the bars sometimes it contacts the bucket and whammo, you have a short. Unless you open the bucket, its Schrödinger's cat.
I also had the battery vibrate around and make contact with the OG ehc plugin. That stopped the bike dead. I put a new tie down strap on and that stopped the battery from making contact with the plugin.
