should I or not?

I ordered a cps(crank position sensor) cable from BDM performance. I ordered a battery strap too. The battery strap came yesterday with a note that the cps cable is on back order. They couldn't give me a time estimate. I went to my local Harley shop and theirs looks the same as far as the sensor and housing but the plug is different. I'm considering buying theirs and cutting off the end and splicing it into my cable with the correct connector. What do you guys think? Should I or should I just wait for the BDM cable. When talking to them on the phone they said they have to put the matching end on it when they get it, sounds like they are doing the same thing. Any opinions?

^this. Just don't modify the bike itself in case it doesn't work. Keep the other one on order for a spare (as JR said).

Thanks for the push in the right direction JR, Domo, and Dennis! I bought the CPS cable from the Harley shop cut off their end and spliced it into mine and the bike is running!!! I am feeling good right now! Now just waiting for the Iowa weather to clear up! I paid 50 dollars for the cable at the Harley shop and cancelled my "on back order" cable with BDM and got my over $100.00 refund, saved $50 and no wait can't beat that!:whoop:
