Shift Rod/Transmission Shift Bracket

I just replaced my shift Rod with a flame style Rod I bought from J&P. I had to add an extension to get the length right. However, It's still 3/8 longer than the stock Rod (With Hiem Joints Fully Screwed In). I haven't ridden the bike yet, but it seems to be binding. With the stock rod, I could easily shift into 1st, Neutral, 2nd while sitting still. With the new one I have to depress the shifter pretty hard to get it to shift. My question is; Should I adjust the shift Bracket on the transmission, where the hiem joint connects. (Sorry, don't know the correct name of the transmission shift bracket part)

If it was shifting fine before the swap I wouldnt play with the trans mounted shift lever. Most likely in the longer hiems. If you still have the locknuts on them, it may be as simple as removing them to screw in farther or if they are @ the bottom of the shift rod threads you can grind a few threads off.

I was thinking last night about removing one on the extensions that I added. From looking at it, is appears that I would be better off with a shorter Rod. It will only take a few minutes to find out. I just didn't want to screw around with the transmission shift mechanism, afraid of possibly opening a can of worms on that. Well, let me go give it a try. I did install a set of flame style mirrors from J&P, they look awesome, really look like a great match to the bile. I'm going to Gatlinburg next week on vacation so I'm trying to get the bike ready. Thanks for the suggestions.

It worked! I removed on of the extensions I had previously added and this took care of the shift binding. Appreciate your imput...always.

Use some Teflon spray on the heims.
