Mr. Wright

Knows some things
Yes, i use it in all my vehicles. We were just talking about it on another thread. Maybe someone will find it and link these threads together.

Maybe Shannon posted that on a thread about a sale on Mobil1... I copied the data so I could buy that oil next time. I was actually a bit put out, having purchased several cases of Mobil1...
Anyhow, here is Shannon’s text from that post:

I had Amsoil, Mobil 1, and the Schaffer's oil tested for friction and heat displacement. Mobil 1 beat Amsoil hands down. Nothing wrong with running Mobil 1, it is a good oil. With the Schaffer's oil, running it in the same engine, the same distance, at the same speed, ran 25* cooler, with a thermal tester.

I put it in my wife's Mini, and it has an oil temp gauge in it. It ran cooler and the oil pressure is higher.

I put it in my 6.0 Chevy, and gained 1 1/2 MPG.

I use their products through out my shop.

If you can't find a dealer near you, I can fix you up.

Is this discussion about using Schaefer’s oil in passenger vehicles and trucks or motorcycles?
OP refers to Harley riders, but Shannon only mentioned cars/trucks. I went to Schaefer’s websites and saw nothing about air cooled applications.
Is this oil recommended for the higher temps of air cooled motorcycle engines?

Thanks, Matt—obviously I didn’t look at the whole website!! When my Mobil1 runs out, I’ll give this a spin—their dealer locator says there is a guy right here in Pittsburg, KS who is a dealer.

We have the opportunity over the last 30 plus years to test oils in our engines that come out of our engine shop. Not only in house testing, but on the race tracks as well. We've moved away from all Mobil products years ago, as we and many others seen significant valve train failure. We just don't feel it has the properties that protect metal to metal contact, and it has become a very, very commercialized oil with a lot of money poured into marketing.

If there is a 25 degree reduction in temp, and all tests where done equally, that alone should be a real good indication that the metal to metal components have a barrier that is strong enough between them, to reduce friction.

You say you have gone away from Mobil, but didn’t mention what you moved to.

Also, have you personally witnessed the kind of temp improvement mentioned above?

Looking forward to retirement
Here is the best test done by their sales person. Walked in my machine shop. With my drill press, my drill & my steel. Set it up and drilled a 1” hole. Time was 30 seconds. Moved over and he placed a puddle of high molly oil on the steel. Took 4 min to drill through!!!!

We used to use quite a bit of Torco products, but when the greed set in with Even Knolls (Torco owner) and he started to taint the product for profit margin, we soon left them and went over to Synergyn products in the shop. We can run the Synergyn products with oil temps as low as 120 and as high as 205, and that oil will repeat to within .003-.004 over 1320 feet of race track. What does this actually mean? This means that apparently the viscosity throughout a wide range of temps stays the same, and we've never seen that in an oil before. Typically as oils take on heat, they can have less protection which increases friction. Another oil we use is Valvoline VR1 Racing 10-30's and 20-50's. Both oils have high levels of zinc and phos. In my S&S 117 and in my 103 in my Harley, I use 20-50 AMS Oil, and RedLine Shock Proof Heavy in both trans's.

A temp reduction of 25 degrees doesn't surprise me. There are lots of junk and mediocre oils, but the good stuff you'll have to do some leg work to get a hold of, and it ain't gonna pop out on a walmart shelf.
